We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Bobby Cnare a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Bobby, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
All of the parental figures in my life have told me my whole life to do something you love and to work hard at it. Even when I was playing basketball as a kid and hating it, my parents made sure I would see it through to the end. SLOTHH is a similar solution. We work very hard to do what we do; the biggest perk to all of of it is that we love doing it. We’re shooting for the moon.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I want SLOTHH to be a safety blanket for people. When you’re having a good day, or a bad one or maybe you just want to listen to some music- I would want SLOTHH to be in that rotation. I think we are so versatile because all of us come from such different music backgrounds, but we all know what type of music we want to make.
This versatility is best heard on our new album “ HEAD FIRST”! Releasing February 3rd 2024.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Honestly the most impactful thing about our journey is the fact that all of us have been doing music for so long. The prior experience we have has helped SLOTHH come such a long way! When we first stepped onto the scene, we had a group of friends/supporters that knew us previously and really helped us push our music. (Shoutout all the boys in Felspar, The Inflights and all the people from the 919 in Boone). That experience and the connections we made really helped us out early.
My best advice for people who are starting this fun, treacherous journey is that your main goal must be to make the music you wish there was more of. A lot easier said than done, but you’ll find that you are more passionate that way.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My parents! My parents prepared me for absolutely everything and still to this day are a huge inspiration in my life. They were the first ones to teach me that if you work hard, you truly can accomplish anything and everything. I keep a very similar mindset for SLOTHH, so we are always pushing and trying to find our next chapter. While my parents REALLY don’t like the idea of the band becoming my full time job (love you guys), they still support me and everything I’ve done and I truly cannot thank them enough for that.
