Alright – so today we’ve have the honor of introducing you to Brandon Oldenburg and Limbert Fabian. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brandon and Limbert, so happy to have you with us today. You two are such a creative powerhouse, but have you both ever had any sort of creativity block along the way? If so, can you talk to us about how both overcame or beat it?
We overcome creative blocks with other mediums. Seeking inspiration in music and art serves as a mental vacation that’s needed to recharge the creative juices. Secondly, a change in scenery allows us to find new perspectives and discover the hidden answers just around the corner.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you two and what you’re both up to?
We are now officially InBetween, a director duo focused in Animation, Hybrid and Interactive work. Friends since teenagers we were two fortunate 19 years olds in art school brought together by a mutual admiration for the people who made our favorite music videos, films and illustrations. Limbert from the Bronx and Brandon from Ft. Worth, we make for an unlikely pair. Fast forward 32 years later, an Academy Award, four Emmys and multiple Cannes Lions including the Grand Prix are a few of the accolades shared between the two of us. We firmly place our feet with one foot in the past and one in the future, nostalgia and futurism. We thrive in the in-between. We manifest our stories through a seasoned discipline of balance between vision and heart.
If you two had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Embrace fear. There are no bad questions, always ask.
2. Embrace failure. Run into your challenges. Learn from each fall. Scar tissue builds character.
3. Embrace persistence. Don’t give up. Don’t give up. When you feel like giving up, don’t.
To close, maybe we can chat about parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you both?
We both had parents who nurtured our curiosities and allowed us to explore. These attributes were instilled at an early age. Now as dads we try to instill this same adventurous spirit to our parenting.
