We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brandy Lee and Robert Alexander. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brandy Lee below.
Brandy and Robert, thrilled to have you on the platform as I think our readers can really benefit from your insights and experiences. In particular, we’d love to hear about how you think about burnout, avoiding or overcoming burnout, etc.
Time. And Space.
We recently went thru a quite difficult time the past year. We had a major project not work out for a number of reasons. We were stretched out and over extended. We had two close deaths that struct us to our core. We found ourselves not equipped to deal with the overbearing stress and emotional roller coasters. This spilled into our relationship heavily. Nothing was left unaffected.
One of the most important reasons we started this business was to adjust life away from the overbearing stress of overworking. Our previous jobs gave us enough experience to know we were exhausted and exasperated. We were so far “in the weeds” we could not see ahead. Problems became continuing issues. Planning became responding. Habits of self care and creative development became difficult to attend to. We fought like a pair of Akitas over simple decisions. Drained and running in circles, we only had one choice, to stop.
Other than stopping, I can’t say that we did one thing. Or much of anything at all. We fell in between days. We shared space and within that, took our own space, like oil and water. Messes of ourselves. We got back to basics. The things we had momentarily forgotten in the spur of things. It took a good bit. A long painstakingly good bit.
Even though life has no roadmap, we all still can get lost sometimes. The landmarks we have enacted on our own paths from habit, diligence, and consistency, are the ones we have to look back to when we don’t know where we are.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
We are multidimensional creators. We create acrylic on canvas paintings and have spread into digital art. Our highest-selling item, Kid Head Start Art Kits, allows children to create a one-of-a-kind painting. A great way to introduce kids to art. It has been a product we are incredibly proud of and we be reintroducing at a later date. Our dogs have been the inspiration for our brand. They have influenced everything from our logo to our products. Our all-natural dog soap started as a solution for our after hike clean ups. With the birth of puppies from Molly and Miles in November 2020, we have started a dog club with the new “wolf” pups and parents, and soon will be welcoming our second generation of puppies, birthed from our first generation and their future partner dogs. Between now and then, we will introduce of clothing line of awesome art themed wolf stuff and accompanying products for dogs and humans.
There is something truly special about these dogs and we are grateful for the influence they have had on our business. We are looking forward to the future with high hopes and lots of creativity.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Self care. Self love. Self development. We think with a good balance of these things you can do just about anything. Take care of your self. Take care of your mind and soul. Take care of your brain.
They are habits and take a lot of work to balance and commit to consistently. We spend a lot of time and energy doing anything but. Whether you are starting out, or already on your journey, there is always room for improvement and reflection.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Each other. When you are a team going after the same goals, honest observation and assessment become valuable practices. It relies on communication and helps the balance of planning and decision making. Within the last year we have had to buckle down and really be aware of ourselves and each other in ways we had not before. We had to improve our communication and diligence and keep working on improving ourselves.
