We were lucky to catch up with Bre’Asia Symone recently and have shared our conversation below.
Bre’Asia , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from determination. Determined to live the life I’ve always envisioned for my self ; a life of success and purpose. Early on in my career I faced so many obstacles and set backs in both my professional and personal life and I won’t lie , I use to succumb to my emotions and my thoughts because I wasn’t as strong mentally. I was ready to quit at the smallest mishap. It took me to sit and just think “If I give up right now , what were the sacrifices for ? What was the blood , sweat and tears for ? Why did I fight so hard just to give up so easily ? “. It was then I told myself , I’d never let anything else deter me from my journey and my goals. Do I still have struggles ? Yes. However, what I’ve learned to understand about resilience is it’s okay to feel what you’re going through , whether it be feeling sad , hurt , frustrated , etc. but , once you’ve felt and dealt with those emotions , get back to work. Don’t let temporary issues cause you to give up on long time goals.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Bre’Asia and I’m a professional Makeup Artist based out of Gwinnett , Ga. I started doing makeup as a side job in 2019 . Just doing it on myself and sometimes , my friends. When I first started , I never thought it would bring me this far. It was supposed to be just a hobby because I was always into all things beauty but I quickly saw the joy and peace it brought me; I was always eager to learn more and practice. From there it became a passion. I didn’t care about the money , I just wanted to do makeup and help women feel their best. I started taking models for free and advertising as much as I could and anywhere I could. In 2022, I was able to quit my job and become full time. Sometimes I still can’t believe it. The road to get here wasn’t easy . I didn’t feel like I had a lot of support and it was hard to gain clientele in a profession that is oversaturated and continuously growing. It took me awhile to find what set me apart from everyone else and honestly , I’m still learning new ways. Learning new ways is what has helped me build my clientele. I still have set backs , which comes with any profession but I’m so proud of my progress. I’m currently working on launching my next endeavour as a Lash Tech. I’m hoping to start taking clients as early as February 2023. I’ve been taking courses since 2021 and now , I think I’m ready. I am nervous but excited to incorporate another beauty based skill and see where this new journey will lead me.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Resilience , determination and patience. These three things have gotten me through the worse and best times of my life. I live by them , especially when it comes to my professional life. Resilience and determination can sometimes go hand in hand. As I mentioned previously , I was always to become resilient because I was determined. There will be obstacles and set backs thrown your way but you have to get going. Sometimes there will be a question of why you’re still trying if things aren’t going your way or you feel like your’e failing but , that’s where your test of determination comes in , Ask yourself how determined are you to fight and work for what you want ? Those dreams and goals that you envision can’t happen without determination and being resilient when all odds are against you. Patience is one of the hardest for me. You see all of the work you’ve put in , the sacrifices , the long hours etc . and yet , still don’t no results. I learned with patience it’s understanding that the results we expect to see have tiers; meaning , you see small results before the big. As a business owner, I started to be grateful for my small wins because it shows me I’m on the right track and if I just keep working and have patience, those big rewards will start coming.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes. I am looking for more creatives , photographers , content creators etc . to collaborate with and gain more expansion for my business. Everyday trends change and clients are wanting a different style of makeup so, I am open to individuals with an open mind and creativity. Someone who can teach me new things that can be incorporated into my artistry. There are able to reach out to me via instagram ( BougieBeetz) and / or email ( bougiebeetz@gmail.com) .
