Meet Brent Kappes

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brent Kappes a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Brent , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience has been shaped by various life experiences, including my service in the US Navy. The discipline, determination, and sense of duty I learned during my time in the Navy have been invaluable in navigating the challenges of entrepreneurship with Bamtech. It’s taught me the importance of adaptability, teamwork, and perseverance, qualities that I’ve carried into my mission with Bamtech to create sustainable and high-quality activewear.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My journey began during my time in the U.S. Navy. The challenges I faced, especially a personal battle with athlete’s foot, led me to recognize the importance of quality, sustainable clothing. This realization became the foundation for Bamtech. At its core, Bamtech is a passion-driven venture focused on revolutionizing the apparel industry, with an emphasis on sustainability and eco-friendly practices. Our primary material, bamboo, is not just soft and durable, but it’s also sustainable and has natural anti-microbial properties.

What I find most exciting about Bamtech is our mission to bridge the gap between comfort, quality, and sustainability. Each product, starting with our bamboo socks, is a testament to our commitment to this mission. Beyond just serving the military community, we aim to impact a global audience by redefining the standards of everyday wear.

Our brand stands for eco-consciousness, and we wear our “Made in the USA” badge with pride. This commitment ensures that our products uphold high standards of quality while also supporting our local industries.

And as for what’s new: We’re thrilled to announce that Bamtech is expanding! We’re launching a new line of activewear for men, catering to both the athletic and the everyday wearer. With the same sustainable ethos, these products will be a blend of performance, comfort, and style.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think being naturally creative has to be number one. Competing in the online space has gotten significantly more challenging so you need to know how to stand out from the crowd with your brand. If your brand is a startup, you also need to know how to delegate tasks to either your team or freelancers. You certainly can’t do everything by yourself. Lastly, determination to see it through. 90% of businesses fail within their first 5 years. Stay consistent and true to the course. Surround yourself with people who can offer advice and get yourself a coach in your business field. This will speed up the process.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
Marketing has been my number #1 challenge. Facebook and Google ads aren’t as effective as they used to be so you end up spending a ton of money testing new creative.
