We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Breonna Queen a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Breonna , so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
One of the best things I’ve done to overcome imposter syndrome is reducing the amount of content I consume!
I noticed that I would constantly compare myself to others when I would be over social media a lot.
Now I reduce the amount of time I spend on social media and filter the content I consume and it has helped so much when it comes to my self-esteem and productivity!
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a full-time beauty blogger on a mission to eradicate the idea that style, wellness and beauty have to be complicated (it doesn’t have to be!).
You can look and feel your best without needing to spend a ton of time in front of the mirror or drain your bank account, and I show women exactly how to do that with my business.
I love what I do because I get to impact women in a positive way!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three most important qualities for me along my journey has been:
1. Faith. If you believe you can achieve something you will… if you don’t believe you will achieve something you won’t! It truly does start with mindset! You can have all the tools but if you don’t believe in yourself then you will self sabotage yourself along your journey
2. Work ethic. I don’t think you need to work all of the time. You can absolutely have a healthy work life balance. However, you do have to do the work. No matter if you’re doing the work to be a better person develop a skill, have a successful business or at your current job. You have to the work! Faith without work is dead. You must take action! You must execute!
3. Alignment. This is an area of knowledge that I’ve just recently feel I get. I use to get so distracted with shiny object syndrome. I would do something and if it didn’t work out how I wanted in my desired time frame, I would quit and more on to the next. Why?! Because I wasn’t in alignment with myself. When you are doing what you’re called to do… you’re in no race or competition with anyone because you know it’s for you. It feels right! So the internal work so that you can be in alignment with yourself and your purpose
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
Right now I’m pregnant and it has completely changed how I navigate life and business! I no longer have the energy I used to have and so I’m having to learn to be okay with less productivity.
Before being pregnant, I could get lost for hours in my works. Now, that’s not the case. I feel like I need a nap after a few hours! I’m learning to be even more gentle with myself in this stage and be okay if I dont get everything done from my to-do list…. I guess this is preparing me for when my baby arrives!
