Meet Briana Burkholder

We were lucky to catch up with Briana Burkholder recently and have shared our conversation below.

Briana, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
My driving motivation is to teach others how to keep themselves and their families safe. As we are all well aware, there are so many unavoidable tragedies that will make their way into our lives during our time on Earth. None of us will get through life without pain and loss in some capacity. So why not do what we can to prevent potentially avoidable pain/loss? That was the question I asked myself at the tender age of 14 years old. At 16 years of age, I joined the Anne Arundel Community Emergency Response Team. Then the following year I became the youngest serving member on the Maryland Human Trafficking taskforce. Throughout my career, empowering others to keep themselves safe has been the determining factor in each new path I have chosen. From working at a self-defense school as a college student, being a Driver’s Education instructor, Child Passenger Safety Technician, Private and Federal Security instructor, Range Safety Officer, firearms instructor, and Emergency Trauma and First Aid instructor, the primary motivation was knowing that each person that left my classroom was a little bit safer.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
kDelta Training focuses on bringing realistic safety training to regular, everyday people. We have two main areas of training – defense and medical aid, with two methods for providing that training: a classroom setting and private instruction. All of our advanced courses incorporate scenario-based training so that each student gets a chance to perform their newly learned skills under pressure. This is a reliable way to build long-lasting skills retention for years to come. We have recently had the amazing opportunity to expand our service offerings to include application assistance and Livescan fingerprinting services. We have also added three brand new classes to our schedule! TASER certification, Tourniquet Master Class, and Personal Defense for Seniors.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Organization, communication, and the ability to roll with the punches are the three qualities that have served me the most. Find a system that works for your personality and skillset. Play to the strengths of your fellow teammates. They may have wildly different methods than you do but if the end result is meeting the goal in harmony then that is the right choice.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
Our ideal client is anyone with the drive to keep themselves and their families safe and prepared! At kDelta Training, we believe that perfect practice makes perfect. The step before that is learning the foundational skills the proper way. Our goal is to provide an enjoyable and inviting environment for people with any skillset to come train and leave empowered to be not just a protector for their families, but an asset to our community as a whole.
