Meet Brigid Turner

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brigid Turner a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Brigid , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I found my purpose through the people places I moved through with God’s Grace. I grew up wanting to be a nurse like my mother. That all changed when I went to college and found love through the Arts. Every step of my journey progressed and shifted to a higher lever as opportunities. My dance Professor saw talent in me and changed the trajectory of my life. I was given an opportunity to work with High School students for 4 summers. That’s when I found my true calling and purpose in life. Once I graduated college, I continued to work in the Arts and with the youth. Sharing my gifts and talents with the youth makes me more aware of what I need to do inspire others to do more and to strive to be great! I developed great work habits and transferred that energy in all areas of my life. During the times of struggles I channel the greatness I have inside of me and project that in the world.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I dance around the world with many gifts and talents. I am a filmmaker, writer, producer, actress, model, dancer, educator, mentor and an ultra marathoner, I’ve had my production company Nastalliagon Productions – Dopeshoes Entertainment LLC. for 10 years, a SAG actress for 13 years, a dancer since a child, an educator for over 15 years, a mentor for over 15 years, I have a youth girls program called Brown Girl Empowerment, and I have been an avid runner for 7 years. All of these titles make up who I am. I wrote, produced, directed and starred in my first feature film called Run Crew which was filmed during the pandemic. This showed my resilience, perseverance, dedication and drive during a time when the world was going through turmoil.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I feel my faith, drive and focus is what makes me able to complete my goals even when there are challenges. Stay focused on the path to where you want to be in your life, surround yourself with individuals who have the same mindset as you have and maintain a discipline to have a healthy lifestyle. Also, set high goals that will push you to grow. Challenges change you!

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
A Rebel Without A Crew by Robert Rodriguez played a huge role in my filmmaking career. His book showed his determination and resilience to making a film with little to no resources. A few nuggets from this book would be to use the resources around you and what you have access to, it’s okay to be scared of your dreams and give back to others in need.
