We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brittani Overacker a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Brittani, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I got my work ethic from my mom from a young age. She taught me to work hard by watching her work and achieving goals. The biggest challenge she had was when she had stage 3 melanoma. She had multiple surgeries then had to go through chemo with giving herself shots everyday. Throughout all that she still worked as an Assistant to a Realtor. She never gave up even on the hard days. It was going to take more than that to stop her. I now teach my son the same work ethic, and how it pays off. I work hard in everything I do to achieve the best goals while balancing a busy schedule.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m a Project Coordinator for a Real Estate Developer and Model. I love Real Estate, which all started from watching my mom and helping her with her listings. I like seeing the beginning of a new apartment building or home to the finish project. Seeing nothing turn into something is so fun and stressful at the time. I get excited when I see my part of my project finished.
As a Model, I get to explore my artistic side. I have studied art since I was in High School. I love painting, chalk art, and just simply sketching. Modeling has let me show my artistic side while being the subject. It is so fun to turn all my ideas into photoshoot. Next year, I will be working on my brand. I’m working to start small and grow slowly.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The most important skill was my work ethic, I never gave up in any situation, no matter how bad it got. I still to this day use this work ethic to improve my decision making to make a happier life. Also, my art skills since I was in junior high. I loved learning art from sketching to chalk to oils. I learned how to express myself and learn the inspirations of the great artists. Now I use modeling to express my art. My open-mindedness to explore new paths in my life. See what works for me and what does not work for me.
My best advice is to stick to your boundaries and comfort zone. You are better when you are comfortable, not doing what they expect you to do. Especially for modeling, try to new styles, this will open so many doors for you.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
I feel overwhelmed quite often with balancing a family, work, and modeling. I have to remember what is most important, and step back to breath. Nothing works out when you are thinking in an overwhelming way. I usually start by stepping back or grabbing food or coffee to refuel my mind and body. I always tell myself it will work out by stopping and not pushing myself.
