Meet Brittany Ranew

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brittany Ranew. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Brittany, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Imposter syndrome is always lurking around the corner I think. The best thing I have found to help me overcome it is using positive affirmations, coupled with visualization and meditation. People often hear about affirmations and I’ll be honest, for the longest time, I did not get it either. What I realized was that it’s more than just simply writing down a positive thought. It’s about evoking the emotion around the statement. It’s a statement of intent. This is the person I am committing to becoming. When we create that emotional link, we then can visualize ourselves being this better version of ourselves. We can see ourselves taking this necessary actions to get to that part of the journey. It’s hard to accomplish a goal or dream that feels big and scary when we can’t even imagine ourselves doing it. These activities open up the door to our mind and give ourselves permission to go there. That’s how you reprogram your brain. That’s how you change the story you are telling yourself.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I have been in the real estate business for ten years and I am so grateful for the journey that I have been on. Being an entrepreneur is tough work, not just the day to day but the mental hurtles you have to go through to become the best version of yourself. Over the past ten years, I am proud of the business that I’ve built and who I’ve become along the way. I am excited to announce that I will realize my long-held dream of becoming a published author in October of this year! I grew up in music and creative writing, which is what my college background is as well. I have had a fiction novel completed and sitting on my own shelf for many years. In 2020, I rediscovered my passion for writing and decided it was time for me to get serious about it again. I took my book off the preverbal shelf, dusted it off, and started going through the editing process. I am proud to say that Book 1 in my Fantasy series, The Fire Prophecies, will be published by St Petersburg Press in October of 2023. That’s one of the things I love about real estate. It gives you the freedom to create the life and business of your dreams. Real estate has fueled my life and I love it for that!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The most impactful skill I have learned over the years is consistency. This can be a buzz word in the business world, but it really is the simple things that make the biggest difference. By taking consistent action towards your goals, no matter how small, you are making incremental progress. In the book, The Slight Edge, by Jeff Olson, he talks about how making incremental progress on our goals adds up to some pretty awesome compound interest in our lives. Before you know it, you are so much closer to achieving your dreams than you ever thought possible. Another impactful skill would be focusing on progress over perfection. I have always been a perfectionist, so learning to throw off this label has been challenging but worth it. You get far more done by focusing on completion over perfection because as we all know, nothing will ever be perfect! So why fuss over it! Just keep moving forward and it will all come together. In this same vein, I have learned people value authenticity over everything else, especially in our society nowadays. Showing up as your authentic self in person and online is a big key to success. People want to be around like-minded people. You will attract those like-minded people to you just by being yourself. No hard sales push, no sliminess required. Just be yourself and trust the process. In a world of social media, showing up online as your true self will be a breath of fresh air.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, I remind myself to stop and breathe. When our brains are in fight or flight mode we can’t think clearly. And when we are overwhelmed that means we can’t focus on what we need to do next. We want to get back into action. The best way to do that is to calm your nervous system down. I do this by taking intentional breaths as well as doing a guided meditation or listening to calming music. In just a few minutes, my mind is clear and then I can ask myself, what’s the most important thing I can do for me and my business right now? Forget what everyone else’s emergencies might be. What’s most important to you? Then, take action! Remember, overwhelm is the abundance you once prayed for. Be grateful and move forward.
