Meet Brooke Johnson

We recently connected with Brooke Johnson and have shared our conversation below.

Brooke, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I think a part of me has always been confident, even from a young age. My mom would preach to me that people who disliked me or found reasons to put me down were just jealous of me, which gave me a pretty strong headed mindset in general. However being a young girl growing up in this generation with the media, of course there were things in my life that made me less confident and tore me down. The biggest way that I have developed my confidence and self-esteem to get to where it is today is really taking time to focus on myself. Right before I went to college I took about a year and a half almost completely to myself. I really focused on finding my inner happiness and getting into a strong confident place.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am currently in my third year studying multimedia journalism with a minor in writing! College has been a wonderful experience for me to further my education and also explore more of what I would like to do professionally.

During my freshman year of college I pondered the idea of starting to model. I had friends studying in the cosmetology space who encouraged me to get into the modeling industry. I started my journey with modeling around April of 2022 and am now signed with five different agencies across the country! I have loved every opportunity that modeling has given me and I have grown such a strong passion for the work.

I have always been interested in the media as well as pop culture. I remember enjoying watching the news when it was on TV growing up, and I have always loved keeping up with all things social media related. A little bit before TikTok became what it is today I started posting lots of silly little videos and eventually realized that I loved content creation. Over the years I have grown my following to around 14K, and I hope that in the future I can grow further into the influencer space, because I really do love it!

One day I think all of my different interests/life paths will align with one another. Whether that is having my own agency, or online media business, or working for a large company in media journalism. I hope to be able to take my modeling career as far as I can, travel the world, and do what I love!!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Determination, confidence, and persistence.

To be in these industries you have to really want it, you have to be determined to reach your goals and stick to them. Make a list of goals for yourself or reasons why you aspire to do what you do and always set yourself up so that your nextstep gets you closer to whatever is on that list.
Saying confidence is key sounds cheesy but I believe it is the truth. Having a big confident presence and personality makes you stand out among others, it makes you recognizable.
I have always been a very persistent person. That trait of mine has paid off recently as I have entered these fields. Knowing what you want is one thing but persistently acting on it is what actually gets you where you want to be.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
A challenge that I am currently facing is trying to figure out where I fit in best in these industries, and how I can combine my interests and work at doing things that inspire me. I am not exactly sure yet where I want to go with my degree, what field of media suits me best, or where I will go with modeling and social media. I do know that everything has a purpose and the things I am feeling are very normal for someone in my position. Although I may not know exactly what I want to do or where I will end up in this world, I am loving the journey of being young and able to explore my opportunities to the fullest.
