We were lucky to catch up with Buddy Force recently and have shared our conversation below.
Buddy , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I’ve learned over time that confidence is more of a skill than a trait. It’s the skill of continuing to try. I keep trying new and exciting things, and that has really helped develop my confidence and self esteem. It’s important as an entertainer to keep a high level of self esteem.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
So primarily I’m a rapper and artist. In addition to making and performing songs, I’m also an abstract painter and graphic designer. Basically, I’m always immersed in art. Self discovery and helping people is a core part of who I am and that tends to come through in my songs. I’ve been able to travel all over the world and see different perspectives of life, and I incorporate those flits of wisdom into my art.
In addition to being a rapper, I’m also a philanthropist. Growing up, my mom took me on missions trips all over Africa, South America, and the Caribbean. By age 15, I had already traveled to over 15 impoverished countries. That’s where I developed my passion for helping others.
My fans are Adventurers, people who aren’t afraid to look below the surface for good music.
Since I don’t have a huge bankroll behind me (yet), I use my face and voice as my vessel to bring joy to others. Words are powerful, and I want to use mine to uplift, strengthen, and empower people while also giving them something to groove to. I’m going to leave Rap and the music industry in a better place than when I found it! My music and art is for those who want to see a more positive shift in pop culture! Stick around and in see where I’m at in a few years!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. The ability to bounce back.
Being an artist is hard. There are tons of ups and downs. But a successful artist must push through the pain and rejection 100+ times until their goal is met. An artist only fails if they quit.
2. To keep going.
There will be time when you feel uninspired to do art or work, but those are the times where you have to remember why you started this journey and what makes you different from the crowd. It’s common to feel dejected and like you are far away from your goals, but you will never reach your goals if you stop trying.
3. To have a thick skin.
I want everyone to like my art, but unfortunately thats not possible. Not everyone will like what you put out. That’s ok, focus on the people who uplift you and help keep you going. That’s your true market and fanbase. Don’t take things so hard about your art, especially if it’s on social media. Remember that people like you, and that the naysayers aren’t who you are trying to impress.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I’m always looking to collaborate because it’s a great way to network and gain exposure. I want to collab with other rappers, singers, and artists, as well as businesses and events. For example, I’m open to playing music at a grand opening, or simply hanging out at the studio to provide moral support on a song or art piece. As long as both sides are getting something from the partnership, I’m happy. Collaborators can message me on Instagram, Facebook, or Youtube.
