We recently connected with Cameron Alyse MacNeille and have shared our conversation below.
Cameron Alyse, so glad you were able to set aside some time for us today. We’ve always admired not just your journey and success, but also the seemingly high levels of self-discipline that you seem to have mastered and so maybe we can start by chatting about how you developed it or where it comes from?
After doing hair for almost 6 years I have built some important boundaries for my business and for my personal life! I attained my self discipline through trial and error with client boundaries. Once I created business hours for myself and set times to respond to inquiries I had a much better work/life balance!
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am currently working on opening my own studio, Sunbird Salon. This has been in the works for months and I plan to have my grand opening March 1st, 2023. I am so excited to share this new space with my clients and continue to grow in the extension industry! I will be looking forward to hiring a new assistant this spring as well. Lots of exciting things happening for Hair by Cam Alyse this year!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My number one takeaway over the years has been that there is room for everyone at the top! We can all be successful together rather than competing with one another in this industry. Another great takeaway has been “Work Brings Results” that I learned through my education job with Waterfall Beaded Row. Extensions have definitely been my most impactful area of knowledge/skills for my business. This has been a great way for me to specialize and find my niche. I always tell baby stylists to go to as many classes as possible to keep up on the newest techniques and methods! Our industry is forever growing and evolving and you have to grow with the times for sure.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am always looking to create content with my hair models and open to accepting new extension clients in Tempe, Arizona! If this is something you’d be interested in, you can text my work phone at 480-479-7114 or connect with me on socials @hairbycamalyse & @sunbirdsalon on Instagram.
