Meet Camila Vintimilla Caster

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Camila Vintimilla Caster. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Camila with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I got my work ethic from my dad. He came to the USA from Ecuador with 2 children, a wife and the clothes on his back. He was a MD in our country but he came here and did what he could with out putting his head down. He started from the very bottom with no car no place to live and no English. No matter what he did, whether it was home health care or tutoring on the side, he always remained hopeful. Fast forward 25 years, where he is at his dream job (research scientist) he is still as thankful and humble as he was on day one.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I do so much and I am so passionate about every single thing that I do, that I don’t know where to begin! I am from Cuenca, Ecuador living in Texas! I have been a Hairstylist since the age of 17. It is my passion. I have my own hair salon and I dedicate my self to giving people the hair they have always wanted while keeping their hair healthy.
One of the challenges my business has endured is when I became a mom. In 2014 I had my first son and although I loved my career, I wanted to stay home. It was challenging but I was able to do it. Now I have 2 children whom I stay home with during the day, volunteer at the school when I can and still get my clients beautiful!
I thought I had made it where I wanted but then in 2021 life took an unexpected turn for me. Me and my family decided we were going to be a surrogate family and I was going to carry a baby for a couple who couldn’t have kids. It was a perfect journey but sadly the baby was born still the day of her due date. This was devasting but I am not someone to drown in sorrow. I took time to learn and heal. Fast forward to today, I am the co director of Communications for an amazing non profit organization that is focused to end preventable stillbirth in the USA. I thrive on a busy life doing the things I love. I beleive if more people were more selfless in the things they do every day the world would be a better place.
Much love!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Don’t give up!! My dad taught me to never give up. It’s easy to look at today and think you can’t make it, but the big picture is so much more!

I have always been a people person. Not a social person necessarily but I am attracted to people and their energies and that has been incredibly helpful in my life.

Family. And when I say family it’s not blood it’s not a title it’s the people who have really in the important life changing moments been there for you.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
I an open to learning about my self every day. I always remember to write a list and just remind my self that checking off one by one it will all get done.
Meditating and breathing deeply is also what has saved me from anxiety after living through a stillbirth. Breathing is the most powerful thing I have discovered and the crazy thing is you can do it anywhere at any moment in any situation, yet it is the most taken for granted thing we own.
