Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Carla Calderas. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Carla, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I get resilience from all the times I had to be strong, vulnerable, and a surviver. When going through a tough time, it is important to remind ourselves of all the times where we were resilient and felt successful afterward. Successful at being okay, finding peace, giving forgiveness, and receiving the learning experience from the challenge. Many times, we search to have an easy life and we struggle to see that it is not about having an easy life but about having ease in the journey.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am on a journey of healing myself and helping others heal. I am passionate about finding meaning and growth from challenges. I own a Mental Health Counseling practice in Spring, Texas, Calderas Counseling, where I help clients reduce their stress, reduce their anxiety, and have better relationships. I also own Calderas Self-Care Center, a health and wellness retreats company where I help guests find peace and harmony so that they go home feeling more relaxed and empowered. Another project I am working on, is writing a book on healing and having a better life. I am excited to continue this vision of having a healed world.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Intuition, mindfulness, and an inquisitive mind. Intuition: We have all of the answers within ourselves, although sometimes we may need guidance or accountability from a peer or mentor. I encourage you to trust and listen to yourself. You are the only one who truly knows your passions, purpose, and mission. Everything you need is already inside of you, trust it. Maybe you can journal or practice meditation. Perhaps you can benefit from going to therapy or working with a coach. Regardless of the tool that you use, trust your intuition.
Mindfulness: It is important to be present and aware of what you are experiencing. It can be easy to just go through the motions, let stress lead your life, or mindlessly do things. When we are present, we get to savor life and enjoy the moment. I invite you to take a deep breath as often as needed to bring yourself back to the present moment. You can also use your 5 senses to bring you back into the now.
Inquisitive mind: It is imperative to be curious. Go into life with an open mind to learn from others and learn from yourself and your experiences. Read books, listen to podcasts, have impactful conversations, and always be a learner.
You got this!
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My brother! He is the most patient and caring person I know. He is a giver and never hesitates to have a listening ear or provide helpful feedback. Anytime I am having a stressful time or need support, I call my brother. He is compassionate and always wants what is best for others. He reminds me of my knowledge and helps me bring out the answers I already have within my self. He asks questions and helps me get clarity when I am struggling. He is the best!
