Meet Carlos Smith II

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Carlos Smith II. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Carlos below.

Carlos, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
My optimism simply came from my journey and growth. Back in 2006 when I began my film journey, I had dreams of having my movies in theaters, festivals and more. My skill set at the time, I didn’t believe in a million years that any of that would happen. However, the moment I decided to do my first movie around 2012-2013, I discovered what I was truly capable of achieving….and all of those dreams I had, finally came into fruition. From that point onward, I’ve been growing a lot and the support has been amazing as well. That very moment I premiered my first movie to a sold out audience, I realized that people were in my corner and here to support my journey.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Ultimately, I’m a filmmaker. I can handle cinematography, directing, editing, producing, and even acting! I’ve been doing all of the above since 2006 and have been going strong ever since. I have a strong passion of telling stories while also creating a stylistic vision for each film. My most notable film projects would be my “SoulHood Saga” film series which began back in 2017 and as of 2023, I had released the 6th and “final’ film in the saga titled “SoulHood Saga II: The Finale”. It’s an action/drama film series taking place in Jacksonville, FL about an ongoing war for peace beginning from a deal gone wrong by a betrayal. Besides “SoulHood Saga”, I also created the highly successful “Friday” parody film “21st Friday” which went on to hit over one million views on Youtube! I’ve also played role as just the cinematographer/editor in projects like “What Goes Around Comes Around”, “Love Me Yet Hate Me”, Jack Boys”, “Badge of Betrayal” and more! My goals are to continue to grow in my film journey and eventually with some of the Hollywood greats!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
My biggest three qualities would be my level of patience, willing to learn, and being genuine about my craft. Patience is one of the more important qualities to carry throughout the journey. I’ve witness many people being impatient, especially in film. I stress this to everyone is to take your time creating your projects. You don’t want to “rush” or skip the important steps because if you choose to do so, the quality of your projects will suffer drastically and it will reflect on everyone’s perception of your level of talent.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
I urge you to find people to handle some of the work load for you. I’ve been in this situation several times and it never fails to be overwhelming! Find people in your corner that you can depend on to help you complete your “to-do” list. ESPECIALLY when it comes to preparation for a big event!
