Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Carmen Friday . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Carmen with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I’m fortunate to have a lot of people in my life who have helped me develop my work ethic. Starting with family, they were and still, until this day are hard workers, and that encouraged me to follow in their footsteps. They’ve taught as well as shown me the importance and benefits of what hard work has to offer at a young age. This is why I’ve personally developed a mindset of never shying away from challenges.
I was also taught how important it is, to be honest, reliable, and trustworthy. When you’re accountable for your actions, it’s easier to create a good reputation for yourself and others are more willing to want to work with you.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Carmen Friday, I’m a Culinary Artist, Published Author, and the owner of Cooking With Carmen LLC.
My focus is “Bringing families back together one meal at a time”! I absolutely love to cook and bake because it’s fun, and exciting and it brings me peace but also brings unity. And that’s why I started my brand: Cooking With Carmen. It’s not just about the food—it’s about bringing people together over delicious meals in an atmosphere of love and happiness.
I love being creative and exploring new ingredients. I think the most special thing about my brand is that it’s an invitation to explore new things, new recipes, new ingredients, and new ways of thinking about food. I want to show people how they can be more adventurous in their cooking by giving them new ideas they might not have thought of before. And what’s even more exciting about what I do is I get the chance to share my passion with so many, an idea that was birth into reality. I love seeing how my purpose has made an impact on the lives of others, and I hope to continue doing so in the future!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge that were most impactful in my journey were:
-Being able to communicate effectively. I think it’s important to be able to communicate clearly and effectively with others, including the people who you work with on a daily basis. You have to be able to explain your ideas clearly and concisely, as well as listen attentively when others are speaking.
-Leadership. Leadership is an important skill for anyone in any profession, especially for those who want to work in business or management positions. Having good leadership skills means knowing how to motivate people around you without being too controlling and knowing when not to micromanage!
-Analytical and Critical thinking. Analytical thinking is so important because it helps you see problems from all angles and come up with solutions that can address those issues from multiple points of view at once. In critical thinking, you must be able to evaluate information and make judgments based on the evidence.
My advice for others would be the best way to develop your leadership skills is to be open to feedback and to seek it out from others. It’s important to set a goal for what you want to improve on, and then ask someone who you trust and respect for their opinion.
In terms of communicating effectively, make sure that you are clear about what you want. If you’re writing an email or a text message, have a goal in mind before you start writing. Also, pay attention to your tone you don’t want to come off as too pushy, sarcastic, or too serious; find the middle ground between those extremes!
When it comes to analytical and critical thinking skills, it’s important that you are able to identify the problem at hand before trying to solve it. This will help prevent any “solution-based” thinking (where we jump right into solutions without first understanding the problem).
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
This is a tough question; however, my days are typically half-structured and half-unstructured, which means that I need to be able to adjust my schedule as necessary. My goal is to work on the 40% that’s unstructured. To only focus on those certain responsibilities on the day that I’ve assigned them and find a day that I will not do any work pertaining to the business.
