Meet Carolyn Lee Jones

We were lucky to catch up with Carolyn Lee Jones recently and have shared our conversation below.

Carolyn Lee , thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
It is my belief that some people are just born with an optimistic outlook on life. I know that I am one of those people. It’s definitely part of an inherent personality trait. I’ve known people who have had a tough upbringing or dire circumstances but yet, still awaken with a positive optimistic outlook on life. For me the sky is blue most of the time and for this I am grateful.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I always wanted to be a singer! After a very successful 38 year Buying career for Luxury Retail, I reinvented myself and emerged a vocalist & band -leader! Of course this was as I paralleled learning the music business and maintaining a retail career for 8 years!

After being downsized in 2008, I hit the streets running full bore to the Dallas music scene full time. Since launching my music career, I’ve recorded and nationally released five CD’s, five singles and started an independent record label Catn’round Sound. My 1st CD featured the late great composer-singer Bob Dorough. ( School House Rock composer – producer ) With live shows, I love the intimacy of a Cabaret setting so I’ve produced and performed five themed cabaret-jazz shows. A few years ago after one of my Cabaret shows featuring the music of female composers and lyricist I started The Satin Dolls Band my all female jazz quintet.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Organizational skills, communication skills & good follow through!

So many “creatives” are just that…creative with no sense of what to do after you’ve been creative. How do you get your “art form” to the public. It takes at least a little of the 3 skills to make things happen OR you have to pay someone with the skills to help you.

As a full time gigging musician, bandleader and recording artist it takes a lot of hard work and due diligence to move forward.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
As a vocalist – leader, the next logical step and dream is taking my music and musician/s on the road to jazz clubs, festivals, all types of women’s events and lovely venues that support a cabaret style show. This has been my goal since day one and optimistically speaking, I know it will happen but, I want and need help.
