Meet Casey Morris

We recently connected with Casey Morris and have shared our conversation below.

Casey, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I’ve overcome it?

Just kidding.

I think imposter syndrome is something that we all get from time to time. We can get past it with a certain aspect of our personal or professional lives, but then something else will come along and it comes flooding back.

I think imposter syndrome is a good thing. It shows that we are constantly pushing ourselves to be better.

To give a specific example, I’ve worked to overcome my imposter syndrome when it comes to public speaking. It’s a common fear, and for good reason. It’s hard to stand in front of an audience, be engaging, and feel confident in doing so.

When I worked in the corporate world, I regularly had to give presentations in front of audiences of hundreds of people. I hated it!

But after I became self-employed, my audiences were much smaller, often one or two people on a Zoom or up to 20 people in a room.

Then I decided I should seek out speaking engagements to promote my business and share my knowledge of the digital marketing world.

When I was first accepted as a speaker at the conference I applied to, I was overwhelmed with imposter syndrome. I thought, “I have no business being on stage with these other guests.” I was worried I wouldn’t speak well or have anything useful to add.

But then something amazing happened during my panel—people listened! They asked me questions and laughed at my jokes. The other panelists shared their appreciation for my contributions and said things like, “I never thought of that!”

After this happened, I remember thinking, “Wow! Maybe I’m pretty good at this.”

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are flexibility, motivation, and a thirst for knowledge.

When I graduated with a degree in television production, the job market was oversaturated with applicants. I took inventory of my skills outside of my degree and learned I was perfectly suited for digital marketing.

Throughout my professional career, I regularly accepted roles that pushed me outside of my comfort zone. I quickly learned new skills and platforms on the job and added to my knowledge base. I was motivated to succeed no matter what.

Being the daughter of two parents who were teachers, you might say I inherited their thirst for knowledge. I love that I constantly have to learn in order to keep up with the ever-evolving world of digital marketing.

How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client is someone who is flexible and trusts me to make the best marketing decisions on their behalf.

For example, a client might think they want social media advertising when in fact search engine advertising would be a better fit for their business. I never want a client to waste their budget and always want them to receive a positive return on investment.

My absolute favorite clients are those who come to me with business goals and a budget and allow me to create a holistic approach to their marketing plan. The combination of strategy with execution is my sweet spot that really allows me to drive results for my clients.
