Meet Cassandra Lowe

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cassandra Lowe a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Cassandra, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I think developing confidence and self-esteem is something I will be working on for the rest of my life. I will always be changing and growing and experiencing, I will always need to find comfort in the discomfort.

Tools to help:

-Make a list of things you are good at. These can be as serious or as silly as you want them to be. My list includes everything from “Managing money” to “Burping loudly” to “Navigating foreign airports”. Celebrate you & ALL you do!

-Say this mantra to yourself over and over: “There is no one like Me”. It’s a pretty obvious and uninspiring statement until you really think deeply on it. If there is only one you…. how can you be compared? An apple will never be a banana.

-Practice self-love. Cook yourself a meal, massage your own feet, buy yourself something little once a week. The more you show yourself love, the easier it is to love yourself.

These have been self-esteem replenishing tactics for me over the past few years. I’m an actor, all I have to offer in an audition is me, myself, and I. My look, my emotions, my opinions, my Me-ness. The health of the relationship I have with myself is essential to my craft

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
This is the most interesting season of my life thus far simply because… I’m finally coming to terms with the fact that I can have more than one purpose, more than one passion.

I’ve always labeled myself as an actor, and that was it. My degree is in musical theatre and I have been working primarily in the film and television industry since I moved down to Atlanta in 2016. Due to the WGA strike I have found myself, along with all of my fellow actors, out of work for most of this year. I busied myself with side hustles to make ends meet… but I was not able to audition. For the first time in my life I had to let myself get curious about other areas of interest. It was both terrifying and liberating.

For the past 5 months I have been writing poetry. I published my first book in May with Bottlecap Press, it is called D A T E and I am extremely proud of it. I’ve also spent an exorbitant amount of time outside with my partner hiking mountains and thru-hiking trails around the southeast. Him and I also capture photography/videography for hotel/tourist department social media accounts/websites/marketing necessities.

It really feels like the sky is the limit lately. I’m acting on my own terms, writing, traveling, hiking, creating content, and just enjoying my little life. I’m loving getting to indulge in many creative projects at once.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Empathy. Tenacity. Embracing Authenticity. (I’m still working to improve on these, myself.)

Being empathetic opens room for deeper, more meaningful connections with people, which can help immensely in any field. Practice makes perfect, I just try to meet people where they’re at because I want the same.

Maintaining tenacity is hard, especially if you are constantly being met with roadblocks, no’s, self-doubt, etc. In the end, knowing that you remained determined despite it all feels so rewarding. Plus, if it’s in pursuit of your desire… it’s worth it.

Embracing your authenticity is huuuge. “Just be yourself” is easier said than done, however, nothing feels more freeing than not having to think about what people think. Embracing authenticity gives you a natural air of confidence, which is easily noticed and can help other people feel comfortable being themselves, too!

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Oh my goodness YES HI HELLO! My bf, Miah Cowan, and I are always looking to collaborate. He is a visual artist/adventure athlete and I am an actor/writer.
We would love to work with any producers/directors looking to write and shoot a cool idea as well as tourist departments/hotel chains in need of curated content for social media/marketing purposes. We would also be interested in repping REI, The North Face, ULA, Sawyer, or other outdoor brands as we are very outdoor-sy individuals.
