Meet Castel Sweet

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Castel Sweet. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Castel, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
By putting ourselves in spaces where we can learn from and be inspired by others helps us to keep our creativity alive. We are constantly visiting other businesses that use herbal and natural ingredients and watching things online that help us learn more and more about the various ways we can benefit from herbs and other natural remedies that allow us to continue to be creative about how the products we make. We really enjoy going to places such as museums to look at art and learn from those who have been innovative before us. This helps us not settle with just doing the same thing over and over but to continue to try new ideas.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Blue Glass Jar Farmacy offers herbal skin and body care products that effectively address common skin conditions yet are gentle on the planet. It is a three-generation business owned by a granddaughter, Castel Sweet, mother, Vanessa Sweet, and grandmother, Alma Hall. We tried many different products, and we could not find anything that accurately addressed our skincare needs. Therefore, we started by making our own products using ingredients we knew and could source ourselves. We found pride in identifying exactly what works for us using ingredients we could pronounce and identify. Over the years, our skin and body care products became popular gifts among family and friends, and we decided to turn it into a business.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge that were most impactful in our journey were organization, persistence, and dedication. There were many times where we could have easily given up on the business, however, with dedication to the mission of why we wanted to provide the products to others we were able to persist and make things work. In addition, as we added new products to the lineup, we had to test test and retest our recipes to ensure the products we were offering effectively addressed what we intended for them to address. We take pride in offering quality products, which means being persistent in getting the right formula of ingredients. Lastly, we have to be organized to keep all the pieces of the business together.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
The most helpful thing that has helped us overcome challenges is each other. Whenever we face a challenge, there is at least one of us who can provide the motivation we need to identify the solution. Whether that is encouraging not to allow the challenge to defeat us or knowing what to try next, that could help us address whatever we are facing. Being able to have three people all working toward a shared goal provides the support needed to make sure we continue to push forward despite any circumstances we may find ourselves in.
