Meet Chago Luna

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chago Luna. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chago below.

Hi Chago, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I would definitely have to say my family and my environment. I was raised in a home where there was a lot going on and growing up in Brooklyn East New York there was definitely a lot of obstacles to go through from day 1. I can’t say I got my resilience from a particular individual or place; all I can say it was a collective influence. Even as I write this, I’m getting a little emotional because I couldn’t picture being where Iam at today. My journey has allowed me to cross paths with people that have been blessings in my life from everywhere but these particular places for different reasons Worcester, Boston and the New Bedford. How I got into screen printing? In 2003 I was sent to this place Called Moriah upstate Ny and met a good friend Butch Rhames. Did not see him since that time and he found me on social media in 2014 he showed me his website and what he was doing, which was printing socks and t-shirts. I asked him if he could teach me, and he said I’m not going to teach you how to do it, but I will give you all the information you need and if you need anything I got you. That same day I reached out to a friend of mine Tony Vieira from New Bedford Ma and asked him if we could meet. I told him I wanted to do t-shirts and that same day he ordered me a printer, a press and a computer and told me to pay him back when I could. I read books, I did tutorials, I learned programs, and I messed up a lot of shirts, but I stuck with it. I turned my bedroom into a shop and finally got me a small space at the Kilburn Mill and the rest is history more will be revealed. I definitely haven’t done this alone, I have received a lot of help, support and encouragement from family, friends and strangers, so would like to take a moment to say thank you.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

We also have a gift shop with our own unique designs and products. we are always looking to improve our crafts and build better relationships with our customers.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
My advice to anyone early in there journey is first don’t give up, don’t buy just any product they show on social media, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My moms passed away when I was 14 but the most impactful thing, she did for me was she allowed me to be myself. The most impactful thing my father did for me was showing me how to be a better person in my community.
