Meet Chanel Robe

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chanel Robe a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Chanel, thrilled to have you on the platform as I think our readers can really benefit from your insights and experiences. In particular, we’d love to hear about how you think about burnout, avoiding or overcoming burnout, etc.
I overcame and now avoid burnout after I started practicing one mantra: “Serve others in a way that honors me, God, and them.” I am a recovering people-pleaser who burned out twice because I constantly put the needs of others above my own. I burned out for the first time in late 2017 while working on a client project. It was so bad that my body no longer regulated my temperature properly. I shivered constantly but kept pushing. I refused to let down my team and the people who needed me. I thought I had a time management problem so I worked at getting more efficient. I developed an entire system around managing people and my time which led to me getting a lot done. But there was still something missing.

I burned out again in early 2020. That led to me quitting my corporate job and eventually walking away from a life I thought I wanted but was one everyone else told me to desire. God led me on a path to seeing me. I finally started to understand my motivations and core desires. I finally learned to love my neighbor AND love myself. I finally learned to say NO to the things that took me further away from those two things. These three things made me a better steward of every area of my life. Finally, I had time and energy for my other gifts and talents. My health improved on every level. My relationships and friendships improved. I had the space to be myself and do the things that I never thought possible. I finally learned to be content and see myself.

These destructive patterns lead to burnout and rob people of so much. That’s why I am so passionate about championing the cause of “serving others in a way that honors you, God, and others. When we learn how to do that, we avoid burnout and create the space to do and be exceedingly abundantly more than we could ever hope or imagine.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am an island girl who loves Jesus, people, giving, and smiling. I’m also a speaker, business owner, philanthropist, and author.

As a recovering people-pleaser and two-time burnout survivor, I was led to reimagine my approach to serving clients and my coworkers. My first burnout led to the discovery of tactics and strategies necessary for achieving simultaneous business and client success with less effort while earning me recognition as a distinguished project & change management expert in my field. Despite knowing these tactics, I experienced a second burnout, which led to a significant mindset shift; one which led to a remarkable journey of healing, self-discipline, and the conceptualization of my book, “In Search of the Pink Flamingo.”

“In Search of the Pink Flamingo” is a riveting and transparent narrative that encourages liberation from trauma and embracing a life of authenticity and confidence. The book is also a prompt for young people to shed societal expectations, reclaim their voice, and show up in the world with Confidence!! Most importantly, “In Search of the Pink Flamingo” echoes my dedication to positioning men and women to break the cycle of people pleasing and to immerse themselves in the well of freedom and self-discovery…. so they can serve others in a way that honors them, others, and God.

Today, I am the co-owner of a client success consultancy business, “The Client Success Experts” which provides business process optimization services that seek to position business owners to become the Least Important person in their profitable business by delivering their services in a way that achieves client success with less effort for both the business owner and their clients. “The Client Success Experts” also focuses on helping business owners to boost customer retention, and positively impact their bottom line and capacity through simple, effective service delivery that saves them minimum 10 hours per week. In doing so, business owners are equipped to maintain strong client relationships without compromising personal boundaries or their quality of life. Thereby fulfilling one of my guiding philosophies of “Serving others in a way that honors you, others, and God.”

I’m also a dynamic speaker, author, and passionate advocate for securing opportunities for safe healing spaces, for Caribbean children who are the survivors of sexual abuse.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three qualities that were and still are the most impactful in my journey are:

1) I have a genuine love for people. I love to see when others win and be their best selves. I now have a passion for loving others in a way that honors me, God and others. It is one of the reasons I am so big on creating client experiences that allow business owners and their clients to win together with less work for both of them.

2) My word is my bond. I consistently aim to live in truth with myself, God, and others. I try to operate with integrity in everything I do. It’s not always easy but it is necessary.

3) I live by the motto of my alma mater, “whatsoever you do do it well.” My goal is to operate with a spirit of excellence in whatever I do. Sometimes this means I will need to change.

The one piece of advice I have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these qualities is to be what I like to call it being your “pink flamingo self”. Get God’s idea of who He called you to be. Get His wisdom around the path you are meant to take to own all of who He called you to be. Then own your God-given voice in a way that honors you, God and others.”

How would you describe your ideal client?
At The Client Success Experts, “We work with business owners whose commitment to their business and client experience is has maxed out their capacity and is affecting their personal life. They know that how they deliver their services is essential to growing and scaling their business profitably and are tired of bleeding money and time through a leaky client delivery system that challenges their boundaries and eats into their time. They lead with integrity and understand that plugging those holes is the fastest route to driving efficient growth and removing themselves from the delivery process… so they can fully step into their CEO shoes and become the LEAST IMPORTANT person in their business and show up fully in their personal life.
