Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Charlie . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Charlie , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience stems from my mother, who, on the Southside of Chicago, navigated adversity to support us. Witnessing her navigate adversity, providing for us against all odds, instilled a profound resilience in me. Her sacrifices molded my character. In 2021, losing her altered my life’s course, unveiling the depth of my resilience—a testament to the indomitable spirit she instilled.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My unique entrepreneurial journey began at 13, launching a candy store in my grandparents’ backyard. Fueled by a desire for the latest fashion, that venture marked the genesis of my business acumen. Today, as a fashion entrepreneur, I’ve come full circle, sourcing and offering style to women nationwide. Simultaneously, my role as a Tech project manager refines my business skills, creating a symbiotic relationship. The blend of managing tech projects by day and curating fashion by night enhances my capabilities in both realms, each enriching the other. This dual passion not only defines my business but also reflects a lifelong commitment to innovation and style.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, resilience, adaptability, and embracing failure have been pivotal. Firstly, resilience, drawn from overcoming challenges, fuels enduring success. Secondly, adaptability ensures relevance in dynamic landscapes. Lastly, failing forward—learning from setbacks—propels growth. My advice: cultivate resilience by confronting challenges head-on; embrace change as an opportunity for evolution; view failure not as a setback, but a stepping stone. Additionally, obsessively perfect your craft, as mastery demands relentless pursuit. Early in your journey, prioritize learning, iterate based on failures, and maintain a fervent dedication to improvement. This blend forms a robust foundation for sustained success.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did was cultivate my strengths, fostering a sense of individuality. They encouraged my curiosity, allowing me to explore new interests and change my mind freely. Their unwavering support became the bedrock of my confidence, shaping me into a resilient and adaptable individual.
