Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chef Dj. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Chef Dj, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I always have had confidence I always knew that I was very different in life I was not the normal child. I was very outspoken and march to my own drums. I always was very different and did things a certain way! As I got older, my self-esteem, very strong, I dress very different. I knew that I was going to be successful in life. I used to carry a briefcase in middle school and high school. I used to wear suits and furs coats to school and casual shoes. That some wood call Chruch shoes lol.
I learn that it was nothing wrong with being different. It was something wrong with want to be like everyone else and not your authentic self.
I made a great name for myself and people love to see me coming!
So when I start my 1st business it was easy because i made it through school I think that is the hardest thing to make it through. When you are different from other people you don’t talk the same you don’t act the same so open my business I knew I would be different I knew I wanted to get people, jobs and opportunities that I was able to give them having my janitorial company then next came Dj Catering Company! I am so proud of Dj Catering Company. I put so much work into it to be the brand that I am. I am happy to be able to cook. Serve people feed people get back to the homeless.. So my confidence and self esteem comes from being a young boy, who was just different, and never let people change me and always stood up for whatever I believe in and keep my head high! I also had an amazing grandmother who loved me so much and taught me to be me and be proud of the man I am and keep my hand in God hands!
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Well, my name is Dwayne Kidd I am 40 years old. I am the owner of Dj Catering Company and Lady P scholarship, Bad To The Bone daiquiris!
I love to cook, it is very peaceful it brings joy to people! I love to see the smile on people face when they eat my food and make them stop thinking about whatever they going through for a moment that moment of enjoying they self could save a life! Food bring so much joy to the heart and soul it very much a love language!
I own a cater company because I get to go to people home and wedding and all types of events and put a smile on people’s face with my food and my personality that God has gave me! I feel like I bring people’s so much joy!
I open up the scholarship fund in 2018 for my grandmother who was ran over by a funeral home Hearst. I did it because she was big on education. She wanted all her kids grandkids. Great grandkids to make sure that they got a diploma she wanted all of us to learn to not be ignorant to be very wise and smart people to not need anyone to count your money or Read for you she wanted us to be very much self sufficient, and education.
I started Mr. Bad To The bone daiquiris for people who was looking for daiquiris.
Dallas Tx didn’t have a lot of them don’t to many now! I came up with my own flavors by mixing different things till I got the right flavor so I love them lol so I knew other people would enjoy them also!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I also want to say that in life it is hard to have a businesses! But to do anything that you want to do to be successful. You have to put in the work! What I have learned is to strive for the best keep your hands in God hands and pray, and let him do the rest do not ever give up on your goals. Don’t go to sleep on your dreams. You only get one life here make it the best-life live and work hard to be your own individual person!
Never want to be like anyone you are a brand yourself let your heart and your gift lead you to your passion and your dreams and I promise God will provide everything that you ever wanted in life.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My grandmother Paulene Kidd she always believes in me she knew I could be anything she never gave up on me. She show me love like never before! No matter what I when through she would say son you are great she taught me to cook with love she taught me to be different and how to have my own set of skills not just her. Like I can cook some amazing seafood boiled and I don’t eat it. I cook whatever flavor people wants and I never taste the ingredients myself.. Because I not a seafood fan lol! But my clientele loves seafood I have traveled around the world, cooking seafood for many families and event.
