Meet Chelsie Martinez

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chelsie Martinez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chelsie below.

Chelsie, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Man in today’s world holding on to confidence and self-esteem is so hard! But I have always leaned on a bible verse found in Psalms 139:14 that talks about how we are “Fearfully and wonderfully made.” (Call me basic cause I got that tattooed on me too! lol) But I always think about this when I have moments when I doubt myself, my job, my looks, oh the spiral we can get caught in. We all try and compare ourselves to others or what we see on social media! It’s so hard not to! So in those moments I’m like, “girl you were created to be amazing!”

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Woa. 15 years in the beauty industry! It’s wild to say that out loud. I can still remember my first day behind the chair and how exciting and scary it was! I remember thinking I couldn’t wait to be established like the other stylists around me. I’m so thankful to reflect on that memory and see the stylist and business owner I am today. I also have to give a big shout out to my two partners Brittany and Emylie and all our love and hard work it took to create Salon29eleven. Salon29eleven is beautiful, clean, and a creative space to assist our clients in all their beauty needs. We love our little space and keep watching as we always have something exciting coming around the corner!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
First, never stop learning. Specially in this industry that constantly growing and changing!! I had an educator tell me, “Learn the rules like a boss so that you can break them like an artist!” In this industry if you know all the principles and protocols you can use them to be as creative as possible! Second, never make the same mistake twice. We all make mistakes!! Even the stylist with 20+ years in the industry. Learn from it and move forward.
Third, try not to compare! Easier said than done! Specially in this industry!! Social media is such a blessing and a curse. Amazing outlets out there to help us share, connect, and grow but the downside with social media is it makes it easy to compare our journeys with others! What’s that saying again? “You do you boo!”

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
Biggest area of growth for me has been time management. If your ADD like me you know we’re all over the place and time management is not one of our strong qualities! Three months ago my husband and I welcomed our first child, Lainey Rose! And yes she is amazing and the parenting journey is wild! So now I’m ADD, a business owner, and a mom! And I want to be perfect at all of them! (Well maybe not the ADD part!) So learning time management can be a struggle but it is so important to find that balance with all the things you want to invest your time in! Wish me luck;)
