Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Christa Shelton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Christa , so happy to have you with us today and there is so much we want to ask you about. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others developed certain skills or qualities that we are struggling with can be helpful. Along those lines, we’d love to hear from you about how you developed your ability to take risk?
I believe my ability to take risk came from fear of regret. From a very young age I have made it a point to be intentional about pursuing the things I want in life, so that I don’t run the greater risk of looking back and wishing that I had.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I specialize in helping women approach life with confidence through movement and mindset work and how to work with the body instead of against it. I use my expertise as a personal trainer (with an emphasis on strength training) and a Behavior Change Specialist (creating tools to help bring about lasting change and supportive lifestyle habits) to help women navigate their lives and bodies at every stage and age with curiosity, grace, ease and excitement. To help them shut out the noise of what they “should” be doing, quit the comparison game and be intentional about focusing on what feels good to them and how to bring that goodness into their lives daily.
For me, it’s not just about creating exercises and counting reps and sets, it’s about the human connection. I strive to understand those I serve on a deeper level and get into the heart of what brought them across my path. The exercise portion is but a small component of what I feel that I do. My goal is for the women I work with to feel comfortable in their own skin and in their place in life.
Helping women prioritize their needs and well being fully and unapologetically is what I love most about the work I do.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The skills that I’ve found to be most impactful along my journey are faith, organizational skills and tenacity. I think it’s important for everyone to start with a solid “why” about what they want to achieve. I believe it’s important to identify what is driving you to go after a particular goal. This is important because when challenges or uncertainty presents itself along the way, having a solid “why” can help you stay the course and make sure they steps you are taking are aligned with where you want to go. I also say, start small. Resist the urge to feel as if you have to tackle everything at once or that the conditions need to be “perfect” to start. Remember there is no “perfection”, it’s all about the process and putting one foot in front of the other and the more you do, the more you will improve and gain more confidence.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, I look to identify the reasons I am feeling that way. I take a step back and decide what I can take off my plate and prioritize what it most important for me to focus on in that moment. Reminding myself that it’s also okay and necessary to take breaks and rest so that I can proceed forward with a clear and calm mind.
