We recently connected with Christian “Nelson” Odinma and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Christian “Nelson”, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I think my resilience comes from knowing who I am and what I possess inside of me. It’s God given. There’s a belief that I have in myself that I’ve always had, from a young age. A belief in knowing I’m capable and equipped to be the best at whatever I put my mind to. Every time I’ve had a moment in my life where I’ve felt that I’d fallen short of meeting expectations, I used that lesson to be better prepared for the next opportunity. I created a little bit of a me against the world attitude to keep my motivation high. On the flip side, I’ve also went so far as making amends with certain partnerships, in hopes that we could build a stronger relationship, through admitting what could’ve been done better previously.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
These days when people ask me what I do, I have to limit it down to just a couple things because lately I feel like I’ve got my hands in a lot. I’m very optimistic, and I understand the importance in leveraging my network. I help run a black car service for high end clients that like to travel discreetly or exclusively. I also have investments interests with Jet Token, Apple , Amazon, Microsoft and Spotify. Primarily, I am a commercial jingler, I work on music soundtracks for commercials, podcasts, radio, and/or movies. I’ve also featured in a couple films and TV slots like “Dimented” Directed by Bigg Von coming out on Amazon Prime and shows like “Wild n Out” “Money Lingo” or “Birds of a Feather 2”. Visibility is key in this New Age, the more you’re seen where significant events are happening the more value it seems to equate to your brand. I’ve always focused on being a service provider when I’m networking, because not only does that add value to your brand, it offers it. For example this year I was invited to the 2023 BET Awards in Los Angeles and it was a special milestone for my group and I. The invitation was proof that my hustle and hard work is recognized.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would have to say the three qualities that were most impactful on my journey were imitating mentors I respect, challenging myself to get better (self improvement) and building a strong network. Technology is an industry that has advanced so much over the last 20 years, so using it properly to our advantage and marrying it with our qualities can really accelerate our progress and success. I submit to folks who are early in their journey to spread themselves out, build relationships outside of your comfort zone. It’s good to be able to diversify the events that you go to or that you’re part of. Create a service or product to offer, so you are identified as an asset. As a Brand Ambassador with RapStar Energy and a Resource Specialist who creates a wealth of opportunities for others, I’ve learned to leverage my talents to build important partnerships everywhere I go! It’s a Big World … got to think global!
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
If I could be blatantly honest, I think my number one obstacle and or challenge I face mainly is balancing all the things that I can do. I tend to take on a lot, because I like to be able to deliver. Sometimes there have been extended waiting periods to reach everyones needs. For example, I use a few platforms to buy and sell products of mine and other affiliate companies. I also have a background in healthcare in the rehab sector, in which I still work with clients privately and I do consultation services for young people trying to be better citizens in their communities. My point is that this all requires a commitment of time and I hate to disappoint. As a father, being available is of big importance to me. I’ve been working harder at managing all my trades equally.
