Meet Christopher Dipnarine

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Christopher Dipnarine. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Christopher with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
Growing up in a financially challenging environment, I quickly realized that hard work was the only way to overcome the obstacles I faced. With limited resources, I had no choice but to put in the extra effort to make ends meet and create a better future for myself. My humble upbringing instilled in me a strong work ethic that has carried over into every aspect of my life. I learned the value of perseverance, determination, and the importance of going above and beyond to achieve my goals. Despite the challenges, I saw my circumstances as an opportunity to prove myself and push past all limitations. This drive and determination continue to fuel my focus today, motivating me to always give my best and strive for excellence in everything I do.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Christopher Dipnarine, a non-profit executive, a highly experienced keynote speaker and business strategist. With a background in sales and operational leadership, I have worked across various industries, including construction, information technology, finance, logistics, executive management, sales, and marketing.

I firmly believes in the importance of creativity and innovation in the non-profit sector. However, I emphasize the significance of traditional values that have brought the sector to where it is today. Balancing innovation with core principles is crucial to me.

Driven by my passion for helping those in need, I have dedicated my life to developing programs focused on environmental sustainability and mentorship. In 2018, I founded 4MyCiTy Inc. with the aim of achieving these goals. The organization has gained recognition and accolades for its innovative approach, including being named the winner of the 2022 Fire Award by the Baltimore Business Journal and Maryland Inno. It has also been recognized as the Most Dedicated Environmental Sustainability Organization in the USA at the 2023 Acquisitions International Non-Profit Organization Awards.

Additionally, my commitment and work ethic have earned me recognition as a finalist for the Citizens Honors Award from the Congressional Medal of Honor Society of the United States of America in 2023. I strive to be a respected leader in the field of environmental sustainability, serving as the Environmental Sustainability Group Leader for the Forbes Councils.

With my diverse background and dedication to making a positive impact through our non-profit work, I aim to be a valuable asset to the sector and a passionate advocate for environmental sustainability and mentorship globally.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back at my journey, three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that have been most impactful to me are:

1. Leadership: Developing strong leadership skills has been crucial in my journey. Being able to inspire and motivate others, make sound decisions, and effectively communicate and collaborate with teams has been essential. My advice for those early in their journey is to seek out opportunities for leadership roles, whether in school, community organizations, or workplace projects. Additionally, invest time in learning about leadership theories, attend workshops or seminars, and seek mentorship from experienced leaders.

2. Adaptability and Resilience: The non-profit sector can be challenging and ever-changing. Being adaptable and resilient in the face of obstacles and setbacks is vital. My advice for early-stage professionals is to embrace a growth mindset and be open to learning and adapting to new situations. Seek feedback, be willing to take on new responsibilities, and develop a strong support network to help you navigate through challenges.

3. Industry Knowledge and Networking: To make a significant impact in the non-profit sector, it’s crucial to have a deep understanding of the industry and to build strong networks. Stay updated on the latest trends, best practices, and regulations relevant to your field. Attend conferences, join professional associations, and engage in networking events to connect with like-minded individuals and learn from their experiences. Additionally, seek out mentors who can provide guidance and advice based on their expertise.

My advice to early-stage professionals is to prioritize continuous learning and networking. Take advantage of online courses, webinars, and industry-specific resources to expand your knowledge. Actively participate in networking events and maintain professional relationships by reaching out and offering support to others in your field.

Ultimately, remember that success in the non-profit sector is not just about individual achievements but about making a positive impact on the lives of those you serve. Stay focused on your mission, be passionate about your work, and continuously strive to improve and grow.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
Growing up in a household with my dad as the sole parent, his presence had a profound impact on my upbringing. From an early age, he played a pivotal role in shaping my character and instilling in me a sense of independence. Rather than sheltering me, he encouraged me to explore my interests, make decisions, and be accountable for my actions. This invaluable guidance not only influenced my personal development but also fostered resilience and the ability to overcome various obstacles.

Moreover, my father wholeheartedly supported my education and personal growth. Recognizing the importance of knowledge and self-improvement, he made it a priority in our lives. He not only emphasized the significance of formal education but also actively engaged in my learning journey. He nurtured my curiosity, fueling my passion for acquiring knowledge. Additionally, he went above and beyond to encourage my involvement in extracurricular activities and hobbies, recognizing the importance of a well-rounded education.

Beyond his role as a provider and mentor, my father served as a beacon of positivity and an exemplary role model. Like a superhero, I admired him for leading by example and demonstrating unwavering optimism, even in the face of adversity. His genuine empathy, integrity, resilience, and unwavering dedication to my growth were qualities that I aspired to possess.

Growing up in a single-parent household with my dad as my primary caregiver allowed me to witness firsthand the immense impact he had on my development. His encouragement of independence, unwavering support for my education and personal growth, and embodiment of positive values have shaped me into the resilient and confident individual I am today.
