Hi Christopher, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
My generosity is a product of countless blessings that have shaped my journey. While I have encountered numerous setbacks and endured the pain of betrayal from those I once trusted, I refuse to let negativity define my path. There was a pivotal moment when I had the opportunity to be signed by Atlantic Records, only to have a supposed friend go out of their way to ensure my dreams were shattered. Yet, these experiences, though disheartening, are not the essence of who I am.
In the midst of these trials, I have been fortunate enough to meet and connect with my personal heroes. I have found myself immersed in extraordinary situations that surpass even the wildest of dreams. These moments have instilled in me an unwavering belief in the power of perseverance and the ability to rise above adversity.
With each blessing that has come my way and the countless miles I have traveled on eight awe-inspiring tours around the world, I have made it my mission to extend a helping hand and offer a glimmer of hope to others. I proudly sponsor a diverse group of artists, songwriters, drummers, and musicians from every corner of the globe.
Through my story, I hope to inspire others to embrace the spirit of generosity, even in the face of adversity. As a Grammy voting member and an entertainer, my journey has been a remarkable tapestry woven with incredible milestones and achievements. Over the course of 24 years, I have dedicated myself wholeheartedly to touring and performing, leaving no stage unexplored. It fills me with immense pride to be a part of the esteemed Grammy community, a testament to the artistry and unwavering dedication I have poured into my music.
With over 24 pre-nominations for my extensive catalog, I have been recognized by my peers for my contributions to the industry. This recognition fuels my passion and inspires me to continue pushing the boundaries of my creativity. Alongside these nominations, I have also had the privilege of creating over 62 albums, each one representing a unique chapter in my musical odyssey.
In addition to my musical accomplishments, I have ventured into the realm of entrepreneurship, founding Black Cherry Music Group. Through this venture, I have had the privilege of making a lasting impact in the industry, specializing in booking, marketing, and event production. My mission is to support and uplift fellow artists, fostering a community that nurtures growth and celebrates success.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My honest advice for individuals in the entertainment industry is to explore various aspects of the field while staying within its parameters. From creating artwork like posters to running sound, event production, lighting, and even promoting shows, engaging in different roles will not only teach you to remain humble but also provide a deeper understanding of the diverse functions within our industry. This will cultivate empathy and hunger for growth, enabling you to navigate the ups and downs of life while staying employed.
It is crucial to approach your journey with an open mind and a willingness to learn. Instead of solely chasing monetary gains, which can often lead to frustration and resentment, focus on gaining knowledge and experience. Embrace every opportunity as a chance to grow, regardless of its scale or significance. Celebrate the accomplishments of your friends and colleagues, fostering a sense of camaraderie and gratitude within the industry. By doing so, you will create a supportive network and contribute to a positive and thriving community.

It’s truly difficult to name just one person who has influenced and taught me about the trade in the entertainment industry. I have been fortunate enough to have encountered hundreds of individuals who have played a significant role in my journey. From graphic designers to record producers, gold-winning artists, songwriters, actors, wardrobe designers, event production teams, sales groups, marketing professionals, promoters, booking agents, sponsors, donors, and many kind-hearted individuals, the list goes on.
Each person I have crossed paths with has imparted valuable knowledge and contributed to my growth in this industry. Whether it’s the promoters and booking agents who have taken me across the world, or the sponsors and donors who have supported our endeavors, I am grateful for their contributions. Even the fans who buy our merchandise on the road to ensure we have food to eat and a hotel to sleep in, I appreciate and love all of you.
