Meet Chrys Phillips

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chrys Phillips a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Chrys , so happy you were able to devote some time to sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our community. So, we’ve always admired how you have seemingly never let nay-sayers or haters keep you down. Can you talk to us about how to persist despite the negative energy that so often is thrown at folks trying to do something special with their lives?
Haven’t we all experienced and continue to experience people who seem to have misplaced hate and negative advice, wether it’s close family members, friends, or even strangers.

In all truth, this can be quite crippling to many people as they’re looking for outside support, an act of confidence in their idea or simply want comaraderie in their journey.

I found out at a very young age that people don’t always want your highest level of success for you, due to their own fears, prejudices and or beliefs and therefore staying in the status quo with them makes them far more comfortable.

Having no real parent role models and living with many people, moving  from place to place I learnt early on to never allow anyone to define me. That is, due to the fact I had no one to guide me or protect me from the people I lived with, who thought it was okay to mistreat, misinform and literally hate or stop my choices and goals. Therefore ultimately this was making my sky a ceiling. I learnt to be self motivated and decided to never allow anyone to judge me for what they believed was my only choice or identity.

Giving yourself permission to feel hurt or upset is fine from their remarks, and after all, our emotions are human nature, however you must also give yourself permission to know your own thoughts and pain and then move onto whatever it is you require, small steps or big ones to overcome and reach your goals. It could take many years or be instant therefore diligence is key.

Haters come and go and sometimes never go away, hence remember, who is anyone to say what your truth is? Your goal? Your choice? We’re all human and therefore never allow their opinions or ignorance to ruin what you feel is true for you. Nay -sayers unfortunately, even is you win the biggest award would still find a way to dwarf your success, therefore, you don’t need someone to tell you if you’re going to succeed or if you are correct because when you search outside of yourself for strength your only allowing opportunities for those to say … you can’t do it, or it’s not going to,work etc.

I have had people, high up in the entertainment industry in Australia tell me I would never succeed and here I am living in Los Angeles doing what I love… being a storyteller in books and tv/film! Cool that I didn’t listen to them hah!

Therefore, always persist, as not doing something or stopping is already failing and thus, the haters and the nay sayers win as you’ve made them correct. Who cares what people think, keep moving and that’ll bring what you desire to fruition. Have perseverance, diligence and desire and then no hate or negativity shall hurt you from being your optimum true self.

Remember … never allow anyone to define you

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
When people ask about my brand it’s a question that had two layers, one being the storyteller of books and film and the other of my design store. My book series Magic Wars Saga is a best seller globally and I’m looking into its screen adaption as I have previously written, produced and directed my own tv shows and my own movies. I’d like to move forward and create projects that assist people to,escape their everyday grind and become someone else even if it is only for a moment. My design store focusses on self love through beautiful products to treat yourself, your pet or someone else. Everything is artistically designed by me and you can treat yourself to something cool and unique.

I’ve had many jobs to get to where I am and if anyone out there is still pushing for their dream, then, don’t stop just keep going as you’ll reach your destination.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three key skills you need to continuously evolve within yourself no matter how many hurdles or issues you encounter is:

Perseverance
Diligence
Belief

Perseverance, without the ability to reinvent your plan and stay focussed on your end goal, there is no way to,succeed as every problem or situation shall pull you down until you quit and find reasons to stop. I’ve seen people do this and fail and I’ve seen people persevere and succeed

Diligence is your ability to continuously stick to the plan on your journey, without losing focus and dedication. Without continual effort there’s no success.

Belief, when everything is hard and there’s nothing moving in your goal, and it seems futile and others tell you to move on it’s the belief in your dream, in your purpose that moves you forward not backwards. Belief in your skills, your idea and in your journey.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I’d really like to connect with fellow professional creatives, who want to make tv shows and movies and not sit around for the opportunities to knock on the door but to get out there and make it happen. People who have drive and passion to do this would be epic to collaborate with. They can send a message on Instagram or to my email and stay tuned for an innovative film festivals I am a co-founder of to assist us the filmmakers and storytellers reach their audiences.
