Meet Cindy Floyd

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cindy Floyd. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cindy below.

Cindy, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
I have always tried to be the best at everything I do. I always think positive! I try to stay organized by making lists of the things I would like to accomplish daily. I set goals for myself at home and with my business. I try to stay on top of trends in the baby and children’s world so I can carry the items young couples are looking for and I can compete with Amazon and the big box stores. I try to offer a unique shopping experience for them and of course the Grandparents!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I own a retail baby and children’s shop in the beautiful Outer Banks! I have over 3200 square feet of new and preloved clothing, gear, furniture, toys, maternity and a gift shop! It is like several mini shops all under one roof! I have been at this location 26 years and have been in business for 44 years! I love what I do! My shop is a Happy Place. People are always amazed at the variety I offer. I love shopping also! I enjoy picking out new inventory and building new displays to showcase my goodies!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Organization, Determination and Commitment! I would not be where I am today without these three things. I have worked long hard hours and am always trying to improve what I do. When you have your own business you have to give 110% to make it work! I try to stay organized. I am determined to be the best I can be, and I am committed to make it happen! I love playing store!

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
Currently, just trying to compete with the big box stores! Target opened here about a year ago and I do feel they have impacted my sales. I am constantly looking for better deals for my shop and trying to stay on top of my game with merchandise that is not available at these stores!
