Meet Claire Lin

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Claire Lin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Claire, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
My optimism mainly comes from my family. We have a tendency whenever something worse happens in our life; we always find something to laugh about the worst thing. When I am not with my family, I also try to think about the good part of the bad thing that happened to me. When I tumbled over on the street, I would think of the experience as a learning experience. I thus learned to be careful next time if I am on the same street again.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a 2D motion designer; I enjoy designing and animating my past unforgettable experiences. The most exciting thing as a motion designer is visualizing something in my head. An indescribable feeling or experience is sometimes easier to explain with visual tools. Adding some sound effects and music would turn the experience into an even more memorable story.

I am currently studying at Savannah College of Art and Design. We have an annual CoMotion event on March 1st and 2nd, 2024. CoMotion is a student event run by about 40-50 students annually. It is an extraordinary event in which we gather about 30-40 companies each year to connect with each other and have different visual designs every year. We made a title sequence and presented all the companies. We also have a complete branding package, including posters, filters on social media, t-shirts, and much more. I am one of the graphic designers who help running the event this year; I am very excited to see how it turned out.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Keep practicing and learning 2. Make something that makes you genuinely passionate about
3. Be patient with the learning process, taking it one step at a time.

For people who have just started on the journey, connecting with people is very helpful. You can take online motion graphics classes, talk to strangers on some motion-specific platforms, or just reach out to the designers that you admire. When you know more people, you gain more chances to exchange knowledge with one another, so you feel less lonely on the journey.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
Growing up, my parents gave me the freedom to choose what I wanted to learn. They are not like any other Asian parents that I know, pushing their kids to go to cram school after school. I usually choose to go to cram school because I want to master something, and my parents would always support me no matter what. The freedom that they gave me has made me happy and healthy.
