Meet Colton Trout

We were lucky to catch up with Colton Trout recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Colton, so happy to have you on the platform with us today and excited to chat about your lessons and insights. Our ability to make good decisions can massively impact our lives, careers and relationships and so it would be very helpful to hear about how you built your decision-making skills.
That’s a great question, I’ve learned as an entrepreneur making decisions comes with the job. I do not have anyone else to make decisions for me and my business. This skill set has absolutely set me apart from other entrepreneurs in the way I can make decisions very quickly. So lets get into how I was able to develop that skill and the system I use to make decisions within my businesses.

To tell you how I learned how to make decisions quickly and efficiently I have to tell you about how bad I was at making decisions in the first place. In high school it was so bad you could ask me a simple question like “Where do you want to get lunch from” and I would be paralyzed and clueless. This was mainly because I wasn’t in tune with my own needs and desires. Now it wasn’t just picking a restaurant but I had noticed it affecting my business in the form of taking forever to make a decision about a social media post, choosing a new cake flavor, should I go with xyz packaging or abc packaging, etc. Now it was affecting my income and that was absolutely not ok.

I then developed a system I labeled P.V.C. Three things to know to make any decision in the snap of your fingers. P stands for Purpose. Far too few people truly understand their purpose and actually believe and live into it. V stands for Vision, where do you want to go long term, not just like a basic 3-5 year goal or even a 10 year goal but what is that big audacious goal that scares the living crap out of you and makes you feel like you are on top of the world if you ever achieved it and then what’s the game plan and measurables that go with it. C stands for Character. We tend to get bogged down with impression management because we don’t really stand for much in the form of the Character traits we want to show the world and live into. If we can develop those three areas we can then make any decision very quickly. It simply becomes is it in alignment with my P.V.C. If the answer is yes then I move forward if the answer is no then I do not.

This can also be used with simple tasks like which restaurant should I eat at. Yes even a restaurant can be in alignment with your P.V.C.

This system made it easy for me to move out of my paralysis by analysis and move into consistent action. Took all the guessing out of what should I do.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Alcohol Infused Cakes Nation Wide! Thought that might get your attention. I’m not just a business coach but also a business owner. Owning Rum Cake Escape an alcohol infused cake business has been an immense pleasure and a tasty treat for myself and this year is all about expansion! We have already increased the amount of farmers markets, events, and bulk orders we are receiving and only have plans for continued growth throughout this year. Which is why that decision making system is so important to have with me at all times. We are working on new recipes, working on bringing on more crew members, and finding new opportunities to share our delicious cakes. This spring we are bringing back our Luxurious Lemon Rum Cake and our Strawberry Lemonade Rum Cake and in the process of developing at Strawberry Margarita Cake.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three qualities that helped me move forward and impact more lives through my business were these: 1. Authenticity 2. Self Confidence 3. Radical Belief in my mission.

There is only one you and the world needs more of it.

I had to realize that by me not being authentic, having self confidence, and not radically believing in my mission that I was only hurting others and myself.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am always looking to connect with other creative and ambitious entrepreneurs! Connecting can range from online via social media, to in person meet ups, to collaboration on TikToks, product development and creation, or entrepreneurs looking to create more consistency within their business.

I am a firm believer in your network is your net worth and I am all for expanding my network!
