Meet GAY-Z

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful GAY-Z. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Comedian below.

Hi GAY-Z, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I got my resilience from knowing who I am. I have been aware since I was 4 years old that I was brought to earth for a higher purpose. I have never needed anyone to validate who I was as a person. I would often see the difference in myself compared to others because of how people have always been drawn to me. I have always been able to make people laugh no matter how they may feel about me as a person. I can connect with so many people from different backgrounds and ethnicities. I was told that I bring the light out of people with my presence. Since I know my purpose is to bring world peace, I move in the regards of that purpose. I was made to carry the weight of the world on my shoulders. I know I am different, special. God made me specifically for the purpose to change the way people think. I wouldn’t wish my life on anyone else but me because I have been through the fire and back. I was made to inspire people to never give up. I am homeless, living in my car, I have straight A’s in Film school, I’m playing at the major comedy clubs in LA and I have so many people from my hometown of Cleveland, Ohio trying to defame my character; I still have a smile on my face and I will always continue to smile through the pain. Always having a positive attitude will get you far in life. Always remember that God has a greater purpose for us all and we have to weather the storm to become our higher self!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I started out as a host of various shows and performing as a christian comic while attending The Ohio State University; I have grown into a quick witted, no holds barred comic over the last nine years. I believe that laughter can bring people together no matter how far apart they may start, my diverse background helps me relate to any crowd.

I am an all-around type of comedian that will sing or dance depending on the day. I’m quick on my toes so be careful when trying to heckle me because I’ve been known to have a smart mouth from time to time. I’ve had the privilege to perform with some of the best comedians in the country. I’ve performed with Gary Owen, Rodney Perry, Damon Williams, Alex Thomas and the late great David A. Arnold was my comedy mentor! I’m most proud of being a comedian in general; as a child, I grew up having severe social anxiety and stage fright and till this day my mother always tells me “she shocked to see me performing in front of such big crowds due to the fact that I was so scared of people growing up!” The one thing that sets me apart from others in the entertainment industry is I have studied comedy since I was a child. I used TV shows like Comicview and Def Comedy Jam to perfect my craft.

I am currently enrolled in The Los Angeles Film School where I am studying to get my Bachelors of Science in Writing for Film and Television. I am excited to be getting into the writing aspect of the industry and my goal is to bring content that will relate to the LGBTQ+ community. I am working on several projects from a 30 minute rom-com loosely based on my life, a biopic on Rick James, and a short film based off a young adult book series called ‘Flyy Girls- Tobyn: The It Girl.’ I am looking to also get into radio and podcasting more as I will be featured on several podcasts in July.

My social media is currently under construction as I have several haters from my hometown of Cleveland, Ohio who have hacked my former social media accounts. These people will even be going to jail over this crime; so let this be a lesson to internet hackers you can do serious time for messing with people’s social media accounts. So right now my online presence is not as prominent as it was in the past. Honestly, these people have done me a favor because I am an old school 80s baby where I don’t like posting my every move on the internet and I’d rather you catch me on the TV. I will be performing virtually on the BET Awards weekend on Saturday, June 24 with Barz on Black Ink Radio. I am excited for the opportunity to showcase my talents on such a great weekend. Just remember no matter what people try to do to you or say about you, know who you are and never let them win! NEVER GIVE UP!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities, skills or areas of knowledge that have been most impactful in my journey are being patient, having perseverance, and treating people with kindness and respect. Working in the entertainment industry is a lengthy journey so having patience is one of the best qualities to obtain to motivate yourself to continue to push forward. The word perseverance is my favorite word in the English language; the definition of perseverance is persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. My perseverance has kept me on the right path on this journey in entertainment because I make sure to have tunnel vision with my comedy career; I have watched many of my peers pass me up who haven’t been doing comedy half as long as me but I know that’s their journey and not mines. I make sure to never compare my story to another person’s story because I know that my time is coming and I am willing to wait for what the universe has planned for me. The third quality of treating people with kindness and respect is big to me because often times you hear how nasty some of these celebrities can be and I never want to be known in the industry as being the “difficult one.” I treat people how I want to be treated. I try to have empathy when meeting people because you never know a person’s back story. I hope that more people can try to treat each other with kindness and empathy because that is the only way to make this world a better place!

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
The number one obstacle/challenge that I am currently facing is that my entire social media presence has been hacked by individuals that I once worked with. There are several individuals from my hometown of Cleveland, Ohio who have made it their purpose to try to defame my character and hack all of my social media accounts. One of these individuals has even gone as far as to steal my jokes and have been performing them around the city of Cleveland. I am currently seeking legal counsel to have these people thrown in jail. I always make the joke that I know I am going to be famous because my life’s story is so crazy that I have to make it into a biopic. That is one of the reasons why I enrolled into The Los Angeles Film School; it is my dream to sweep the Oscars with my biopic story because I plan to write, direct, star and produce my biopic called ‘Perseverance.’ I want my life to inspire the next generation to never give up no matter how many people try to come against you. I know that what I am doing is the right thing because if I was not on the right path there would not be so many people who are coming against me. The great thing about this situation is that I know I will prevail against these evil individuals because you NEVER WIN WHEN YOU DO PEOPLE DIRTY!
