Meet Courtney Lockridge

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Courtney Lockridge a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Courtney, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
It can be a hard feat to find your purpose, especially with the pressures of growing up and having to know what you want to do with your life. I feel like the easiest way to find your purpose is to try everything. Try the things that interest you, even a little bit. Continue to be open about exploring different activities, hobbies, jobs and industries. With everything available to us, there is nothing that we can’t do. Of course some things are easier than others but when you start to make drastic measures to obtain or achieve something, that’s when you know that’s your thing. That’s what you love, that thing is what makes you, you and what gets you going everyday. You’ll soon be able to look within and understand how your passion is connected to your purpose.

When I look at the things I’ve accomplished and see how I’ve grown in specific areas in my personal and work life, I noticed a connection. Everything that gives me joy and keeps me going has to do with helping others. Whether its helping someone understand what they are going through by sharing my past experiences, teaching them how to do something or providing them the right tools. You can even see it within the industries that I’m in; my non profit provides resources to the under served communities, my health and wellness company helps with boosting my clients confidence and my security company protects my clients’ customers, properties and buildings while also creating a substantial workforce. My purpose shows in everything I do and without venturing out by trying different things I wouldn’t have been able to reveal it.

What’s your purpose?

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
As an entrepreneur, I always find it difficult to explain what I do. The one thing I can say, is that I’m in the business of helping people. My passion to help youth is what started it all. I was fortunate enough to be exposed to quite a lot when I was younger and as I grew up, I noticed that some kids did not have the same opportunity I had. My goal has always been to bridge that gap by exposing youth in under served communities to things and places they normally wouldn’t have had access to. In 2019 my best friend and colleague from the last organization we worked for, opened up our own nonprofit called Impact LA.

Within the last couple years we’ve created a youth summer camp, an annual back to school and turkey dinner giveaway, facilitated a basketball drill and conditioning camp in Mexico along with a sneaker drive and as of this year have been approved by the state of California as an after-school/summer meals sponsor for youth. Since January of this year, we’ve provided close to 50,000 free meals to youth after-school. We’re so proud to have accomplished this in such a short time and this is only the beginning. For this summer, we have over 25 sites where kids within the communities we serve, can come and eat a nutritious Breakast and/or Lunch for free. Feel free to check out all that we do, along with the list of summer feeding locations on our website at www.ImpactLA.org

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Network, network and more network. I know its cliche but some still don’t know that it’s not all about what you know, but who you know. You can be the smartest and the most talented person, but without the right circle or direction, all of what you have and who you are can be overlooked. Sometimes it does take someone else to place your idea or talent in front of the right people. The world is not meant for you to accomplish things on your own. Taking on a more collaborative approach can get you further. Although it may be difficult to find your tribe, don’t ever stop looking. There are a lot of people willing and looking for mentors, motivators, go getters and people like you to have a breakthrough.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed, I take a step back and write everything down. I’ve noticed when I have too much on my mind, it means that I have not organized my thoughts. My thoughts are a direct connection to my tasks, which in turn helps me complete my goal. My to do lists are a vital part of my success and without them I usually end up feeling lost. Organizing my monthly goals, weekly milestones and daily tasks helps me take control of my life.
