Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Courtney Wilson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Courtney, so excited to have you with us today, particularly to get your insight on a topic that comes up constantly in the community – overcoming creativity blocks. Any thoughts you can share with us?
Fighting creativity blocks can be hard at times, especially when you need to deliver on an idea in a short period of time. For me, I find the best way to let my creativity flow freely is to diversify my daily tasks and interests. Pulling away from work, reading a book, finishing a puzzle or some other activity that gives my brain a break helps me returned renewed with new ideas! All the best ideas I’ve had all come from moments where I’m not actively brainstorming.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Hey there, my name is Courtney and I’m the woman behind Wildson Mountain Goods! I’m based out of Whitefish, Montana and I’m a young adventurer who aspires to create beautiful goods that reflect my passion for color in the outdoors.
For a while I struggled to find colorful outdoor gear that fit my style. So I created Wildson, a brand to fill those gaps in the industry with pieces that inspired. There’s no reason why you can’t explore and express your unique style at the same time.
I’m constantly evolving Wildson and the designs that I create each winter. I hope to show other ladies that wearing girly gear in the outdoors doesn’t make you any less of an adventurer!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think the best piece of advice I can give to fellow entrepreneurs and artists is to learn everything you can about yourself. I grew up trying all different activities and I quickly learned which ones I excelled at and enjoyed. Once you understand your own unique strengths, you can play within those to find your true passion! Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and look silly trying something new. Everyone was a beginner at some point in their life and it’s the journey of learning that is the most rewarding anyways!
We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?
While I do feel that being well-rounded is helpful, knowing and honing in on our strengths can be very powerful. That being said, sometimes we don’t realize how far our strengths can stretch to areas we’ve never indulged before. Don’t be afraid to try new things, but also realize when something may not be meant for you. I spent many years trying to be good at things that didn’t come naturally to me. I was constantly frustrated with myself for not being able to do tasks that others excelled with. It wasn’t until I reverted back to my strengths that I experienced the most success!
