We were lucky to catch up with Cynthia Appiah recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Cynthia, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
As the CEO of Beauty From Within Coaching & Consulting, a training and empowerment agency, I often come across individuals who struggle to identify their purpose. Many ambitious people have approached me with the question: “How do I know or find what my purpose is?” To help answer this question, I have created 7 helpful tips that I share with my clients and other ambitious individuals who struggle with identifying their purpose.

I believe that every person has been given gifts by a higher power, whether it be God, the universe, or another spiritual belief. These gifts are meant to help us succeed in life and live abundantly. With that in mind, I will begin with a bible verse from Romans chapter 12 verses 6-8:

“We all have gifts. They differ according to the grace God has given to each of us. Do you have the gift of prophecy? Then use it according to the faith you have. If your gift is serving, then serve. If it is teaching, then teach. Is it encouraging others? Then encourage them. Is it giving to others? Then give freely. Is it being a leader? Then work hard at it. Is it showing mercy? Then do it cheerfully.”

I believe that one of the reasons we are on this earth is to use our God-given gifts to enhance the lives of others. Once you have identified your gifts, it opens the door to your purpose.

Now, let me share my 7 helpful tips on how to identify your God-given gifts and ultimately discover your purpose:

Tip 1: Identify all your interests. Take some time to brainstorm and write down everything you love to do and everything that comes easy to you. Focus on what makes you happy and the skills and talents that come naturally to you.

Tip 2: Pray or meditate to calm your mind and center yourself. If you are a believer, praying can help you stay grounded and focused. Some people find meditation helpful in becoming more centered. In this state of calmness, the answers to what you identified in tip number 1 may become clearer.

Tip 3: Seek guidance from friends and family. Surround yourself with supportive and encouraging individuals who want to see you succeed. Their opinions and perspectives can help you further identify your gifts. Ask them questions like: What are some great things about me? What do people admire about me?

Tip 4: Narrow down your list. Use what you have identified in the previous steps to narrow down your list of talents, skills, and interests.

Tip 5: Look at your list with a fresh perspective. Just like my manager used to tell me to look at projects with a fresh set of eyes, apply the same thinking to your narrowed list. This fresh perspective can help you get closer to identifying your gifts that will lead you to your purpose.

Tip 6: Number your interests from 1 to 10. Using your narrowed list, assign a number to each interest or talent based on how passionate you are about it. If something doesn’t score a 10, remove it from the list. While it may still be a gift, it may not be the passion that will lead you to your purpose. Focus on the ones that score a 10.

Tip 7: Create an action plan for your purpose. Review your narrowed list and see if there are any commonalities between what your friends and family have said about you and what you have identified. Use this list to create an action plan that will help you unleash your purpose. This step requires self-discovery, so take your time and be clear about the results you want to achieve.

Here is a helpful equation: Passion+ Cultivate + Persistence + Share with the world to enhance the lives of others consistently = Purpose

In conclusion, every person has a unique gift, and sharing that gift with the world is what sets you apart. By honing in on your gift and following the tips I have shared, you can unleash your purpose. The path to self-discovery takes time and effort, but it will ultimately lead you to your God-given gift and your purpose in life.

As a sought-after pageant consultant and judge, I have found self-confidence to be a necessary ingredient in achieving success. Without it, an individual would not be able to see the beauty within. I had a difficult start to my life. I was diagnosed with a brain tumor, my whole left jaw was removed, I was born right-handed, now I am left-sided, and I almost died twice. I am a walking medical miracle, and I am in the medical books. From this traumatizing experience, as an adult, I developed Beauty from Within Coaching & Consulting LLC because I know firsthand how it feels to lack confidence in yourself when you aren’t able to see your beauty from within.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The path of entrepreneurship is undeniably challenging, especially if you don’t have substantial financial resources. Building a brand from scratch can be an uphill battle without sufficient capital. However, it’s crucial to persevere and embrace certain key qualities that can greatly contribute to your success. These include tenacity, adaptability, determination, consistency, and a steadfast commitment to your ultimate goal. It’s important to remember that while your long-term vision remains unchanged, your strategies may need to evolve and adjust along the way to effectively navigate the ever-changing landscape of entrepreneurship.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
I am immensely grateful to my parents, particularly my mother, for imparting upon me the importance of having a strong connection with God. This spiritual foundation has been a source of strength and guidance, helping me overcome countless challenges and obstacles in my life. As someone who was born in Ghana, West Africa, and later immigrated to the United States with my family, I witnessed firsthand the hardships they endured in a foreign land. This experience instilled in me a deep appreciation for the value of hard work and resilience. Witnessing their unwavering work ethic and determination served as a powerful lesson, inspiring me to never give up and always strive for success.
