We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dan Drescher. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dan below.
Dan , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic has come from being okay with failure. From a young age I always found myself having to practice, fail and repeat a bit more than others in whatever I was trying to get accomplished. I’m extremely critical and hard on myself , so it’s rare that i’m actually ever satisfied with anything I do. As I’ve gotten older i’ve realized this isn’t necessarily a healthy personality trait, however I have begun to see a lot of benefits from my consistency and determination to make my goals happen.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Drescher Visuals (DV) is a video marketing company. We focus on producing creative, innovative commercial video content that is primarily used for PPC/CTV campaigns. We take a deep dive into understanding the brand identity of our clients and work with their internal team to conceptualize unique video that targeted audiences have trouble passing up when it appears on their feeds. Over the last few years, we’ve really pushed our VFX skills, to help our video content stand out even more in saturated markets. This combined with our “out of the box” ideas has led to some very successful video campaigns that continue to provide ROI to our clients.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three qualities that were the most impactful in my professional journey are being considerate, being consistent and most importantly, having a passion. If I could give any advice it would be to map out a professional plan for a year and stick with it. I see a lot of new entrepreneurs entertain a variety of business endeavors, but never stay with one long enough to know if it really was a success or not. Expecting overnight success isn’t always realistic, and recognizing how to overcome slower months of business is how you grow! During my first year of business I had non-stop work up until October, and then barely had any projects until the next year. Instead of quitting, I focused on finding new business during the slower times and was able to create a more consistent schedule of work.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Being overwhelmed is something that can really take a toll on your mental and physical health. I think small business owners experience this feeling quite often, and deal with it in their own ways. For me, I first focus on what I can do to physically feel better while working through the stress. Personally, this revolves around my nutrition and exercise regime. After that I then do my best to remind my team and myself that this is only a temporary situation and will not last forever! I focus all of my efforts into planning and working with my team to configure the best possible routine to get through the manic wave, but also make sure the “light” at the end of the tunnel is mapped out. I think it’s tough for anyone to give it their all and never really know when exactly they will see their efforts pay off, so doing my best to project this helps the wellbeing of everyone involved.
