Meet Dana Doss

We were lucky to catch up with Dana Doss recently and have shared our conversation below.

Dana, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
My purpose has changed over the years, but my family is ultimately why I do what I do! My husband, Ryan, and I have big goals for ourselves so that we can provide our kids with the memories and traditions that we want for them. I believe that my profession allows me to help others and encourage them on their journey in their business. I am a stepping stone for them to grow and it’s an honor.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I began Doss Design + Co out of a need for business owners and entrepreneurs to have a clear, easy-to-use site for clients to learn more about their businesses. I enjoy the planning process and allowing my client to dream and hear their passion for their company or idea. It gets me excited to build a website for them and help them see their dream come true.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Having curiosity, willingness to learn, and being mentored have been most impactful in beginning and continuing my business. I have enjoyed learning from those who are pillars in the community of web design. I have learned from them so I can build quicker and not repeat the mistakes they made. As a former teacher, I love learning. Lucky for me, it feels like there’s a never-ending supply of web design education and it grows daily. Mentoring has been powerful as well. Recently I became part of a Mastermind group with Amy Whipple and connected with a community of female entrepreneurs. The encouragement and motivation I have had because of her Rise and Shine Mastermind group is priceless.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
The number one obstacle I am currently facing in my business is time. It’s the end of 2023 and I am booked with fabulous clients until August. It’s a great problem to have, but I seriously dislike telling potential clients that I can’t help them until the fall of 2024. I am in the process of training someone to work on the sites with me so we can expedite the website process and help our clients launch their sites even quicker!

I am grateful for the clients I do have. They have also shared with me the struggles and obstacles they face. One is social media and I am excited to launch a course in early 2024 that will help them with managing their social media and how it impacts their business and the community they are building.
