Meet Dana Mooney

We were lucky to catch up with Dana Mooney recently and have shared our conversation below.

Dana , first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
When I post to social media, I always stay honest and down to earth. I never want to be seen as bragging, unobtainable or out of touch. I know how hard each art sale is and I never take for granted the clients that support me. I know that my work is original and holds value emotionally as well as financially, and for those reasons if I ever feel imposter syndrome coming on I just know that what I am doing is true and the journey is always an uphill climb.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I create artwork that is expressive, colourful, uplifting, and fits seamlessly into people’s homes and designed spaces. My work ranges from watercolour paintings, to fine art on canvases, to custom murals and often brand collaborations. With subjects inspired by oceans, mountains and dreamy skys, my work is an escape from life’s stresses. It brings a sense of calm into a room and allows the viewer to take pause.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
When I started my career as a fulltime artist, I learned everything as I went. Being self taught, a lot of work went straight into the garbage! I also had no formal business education. I think my advice would be to take a business course, and digital marketing/social media training if you plan on representing yourself.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I love to collaborate with brands that are in the home decor industries. I have past collaborations in wallpaper, fabric, packaging design, and more. Please connect if you feel my artwork would fit your products, I’d love to continue to expand my creativity and brand reach.
