Meet DAngelo Garza

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful DAngelo Garza. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with DAngelo below.

DAngelo, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I honestly just keep having fun and being myself! Making music is such a fun thing to do especially when it’s a way to connect with other people locally and globally. When I’m getting involved with music whether that’s recording, writing, or even listening, I feel at peace. So whenever I create music I’m always at peace, and that’s what keeps me going in my music career. I’ve made so much friends through music than I have being in school. It’s just a great feeling connecting with people and building those bonds.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Something I feel really special about is something I recently did at the end of September. I worked with music professionals across the Nation to learn and understand the music business behind sync placements for music. (Music for movies, commercials, ads, etc) . The day I was selected I felt a huge sense of accomplishment since this was my 3rd time applying! The organizers (Assemble sound & The Music District) partnered me up with an engineer from Detroit and 2 musicians from Northern Colorado, Detchen Hawk & Miranda Fling. We were given 2 days to create 3 songs with specific guidelines and briefs, and we happened to make it work while having fun and getting to know about each-other as musicians! Something new for the fans to know is that I’ll be working with a West Coast Legend from the Hip Hop Industry in the future! I’ll be showcasing 2 songs specifically produced by this Artist’s team sometime between October-November. There will also be a Live performance in Early December located in Fort Collins for the audience to attend!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The 3 key factors for this entire journey so far were the ones I was taught in Elementary school. Those were Excellent Achievement, Positive behavior, and Consistent Attendance. Doing music I had to consistently be attended mentally not just physically. Had I given up mentally after not being selected for certain opportunities, I would’ve missed out on so much by doubting myself. Which is why I always kept a positive attitude towards my other goals. If one goal couldn’t be achieved, I’ll focus on my other goals and come back to that one when the time is right. I look back at it as “Maybe it’s a sign that I wasn’t ready”. Which is why I feel so accomplished for being selected to anything I submit myself in as an artist. Whether that be a charity event, small shows, special guest appearances, etc. I wanna make a positive impact in my community doing what I love. And through this entire journey so far, I felt like I’ve achieved a lot of things I didn’t know I was capable of. One thing I can say to people is, to always stay positive. One closed door doesn’t define your future. There’s millions of opportunities out there, don’t let 1 opportunity change your dream if things don’t go as planned. It never hurts to come back to it in the future.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
(There’s lots of people I can so), so I’m gonna say the most important ones that have helped me on the business side of things. Shoutout to the Qoncert app for getting me on shows since the area I’m from isn’t too keen on working with me. Hypnautic & King Tef are the founders of the app and they do what they can to help small artists get on stages and eventually become headliners. Shoutout to the Music district for always offering small events to benefit musicians. They have the best staff to help you and they built a community of musicians at their location in Fort Collins. Without them I wouldn’t be who I am as a musician as they’ve educated me and actually helped me mature a bit more in my music career. Shoutout to everyone supporting to this very day as they read this article because its YOU who keeps me going, thank you.
