Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dania Christian. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dania, thanks for taking the time to share your lessons with our community today. So, let’s jump right in – one of the most essential skills for unlocking our potential is self-discipline. Where does your self-discipline come from?
My self-discipline comes from my parents. Growing up, I watched both of my parents paint the visual of success. They both became successful business owners at a young age and that really motivated me.
My children and husband are also the reason behind my self-discipline. As a full time business owner, I’m able to do what I really love and spend quality time with them as well.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My love for art and fashion began when I started participating in pageants in middle school. I was so fascinated by the glitz and glamour of these gowns but never imagined being the creator of them one day.
I attended Mississippi State University originally for photography but that quickly changed when I was introduced to a student that was in the fashion design program. I visited her dorm room with a friend one day as she was working on her design projects and was sold by that one visit!
Here I am 13 years later designing birthday garments, wedding gowns, pageant gowns, prom gowns, and so much more! We just wrapped up prom season with 35+ custom dresses! Besides custom, I’ve also added formal and non-formal alterations as a service.
My brand, Giselle Audrey Couture, LLC is named after my beautiful and smart six year old daughter, Giselle. She loves fashion just as much as I do and definitely keeps me motivated!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities that were most impactful in my journey would be ambition, adaptability, & integrity,
Ambition is the reason I am still thriving and excelling on this journey today. I always found ways to continue despite any obstacles that I may have encountered along the way.
In relation to my area of work, we all know that fashion changes constantly. Being able to adapt to the changes is definitely a plus. Adaptability is so impactful outside of fashion in order to stand out amongst others.
Integrity has been crucial throughout my journey as a fashion designer.. My clients/customers build trust with me during the initial conversation and also throughout the process.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was introduce me to entrepreneurship! Both of my parents started their businesses early in life and excelled tremendously. That was my motivation!
