Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Daniel Capellaro And Dave Wood. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Daniel Capellaro, so happy to have you with us today and there is so much we want to ask you about. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others developed certain skills or qualities that we are struggling with can be helpful. Along those lines, we’d love to hear from you about how you developed your ability to take risk?
When Dave and I first decided to form XIXI it was more out of a feeling of necessity. There were so many bad experiences we both had with various artists, producers, labels, and publishers. So many of them were following the same trajectory releasing and promoting music and artists that sounded the same from a fear of not fitting in with what was is “Current.” The real risk-takers are hard to find, and in our experience, the best music has always been something new. To us, that risk-taking needed to be implemented into our business model. So many songs are being uploaded to streaming daily we knew that we needed to find new ways to stand out. We wanted to be a production company where artists felt like they could take chances and explore their sound. We’ve always been inspired by Producers who pioneered new creative ways of making records. The music industry needs new ways of doing things in order to survive and Dave and I both feel that surrounding ourselves with artists who are risk-takers is imperative to making the music we help create be fun and new.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
XIXI Music Pro is both a brick-and-mortar recording studio based in Sherman Oak, CA as well as a production team. Dave and I share a passion for making music and collaborating. Our production company serves as a safe place for artists of every level to create, write, record, and develop. We have every instrument under the sun at their disposal as well as Dave and myself helping them to write, arrange, perform, record, mix, and master. It’s really a one-stop shop! We also have been signing several of our artists to full 360 deals whereby we offer our services to help admin, develop, and pitch their music for sync in film and television. Dave and I have a wide array of contacts in the 20+ years we’ve worked in the industry that can help our artists gain the exposure they need.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Our best advice is to remain OPEN to collaborate. Being the best in the room doesn’t allow for growth. We’ve always surrounded ourselves with experts in their fields to help better our skill sets. I am also one of Dave’s biggest fans. We both support and respect each other’s creative input during the process and it’s beyond fun to work together. We always try and push each other in directions we wouldn’t normally think of going and allow each other to take risks. We also think it’s so important to have the artist at the helm of their own project. Only they know what type of sounds they like. We see our role as producers as both collaborators and as tools to help our artists bring their vision to life. Often artists think they know what they want and then when they finally have the opportunity to be in a professional studio and create that sound, or have a guitar player, drummer, or singer at their disposal, the sound can change. And it always changes for the better!
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
We are always looking for artists, producers, sync reps, publishers, and labels to collaborate with! We would not be where we are today had it not been for the help of people with whom we’ve collaborated. If you are an artist who wants to work with us feel free to email us at xiximusicpro@gmail.com. We’re also on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook as XIXI Music Pro where we show daily tips on everything from recording, marketing, and release strategies that we use and that work.
