Meet Danielle Brunson

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Danielle Brunson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Danielle below.

Hi Danielle, thanks for sitting with us today to chat about topics that are relevant to so many. One of those topics is communication skills, because we live in an age where our ability to communicate effectively can be like a superpower. Can you share how you developed your ability to communicate well?
I developed my ability to communicate effectively through a combination of practical applications, feedback from mentors, and a shift in my mindset. Initially, I focused on concise writing and sought guidance from mentors who helped me refine my written communication. However, the turning point came when I realized the significance of showing up for communication-related tasks well-rested, at ease, and with the goal of connecting with others rather than just proving my knowledge. This shift in perspective led to a remarkable improvement in my communication skills and deeper connections with others.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Certainly! I’m the owner and driving force behind The Namaste Project, a venture that’s very close to my heart. What makes it particularly exciting is our unique approach to therapeutic mindfulness interventions. We specialize in offering quick and effective practices designed to benefit both adults and youth. Our target audience often consists of individuals juggling demanding, high-pressure jobs, which is why we’ve tailored our approach to meet their specific needs.

One of the aspects we’re most proud of is our commitment to making mindfulness practical and accessible, steering clear of any performative elements. We’re passionate about fostering wellness within communities, schools, and companies, forging partnerships to ensure that our programs make a genuine impact. We’re continuously looking for new opportunities to expand our reach and serve those who can benefit from our mindful practices.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back on my journey, I believe that three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge have had a profound impact. Firstly, it’s been my unwavering commitment to self-reflection and allowing myself the essential space for rest. This practice has helped me stay grounded and maintain clarity in the face of challenges.

Secondly, prioritizing not only my well-being but also that of my family over work has been transformative. It’s easy for entrepreneurs to get caught up in the hustle and grind, but I’ve found that by focusing on health and family, I’ve been able to find a harmonious balance that enhances my overall life satisfaction.

Lastly, learning to say no to opportunities or ventures that don’t align with my personal goals has been crucial. In the past, there may have been a temptation to say yes to everything, but I’ve discovered that true success comes from aligning your efforts with what truly ignites your passion. It’s about finding work that brings you genuine joy and fulfillment.

For those who are early in their journey, my advice would be to seek out what genuinely lights you up and resonates with your values. While financial considerations are important, if you have the flexibility to make choices not solely rooted in money, prioritize work that aligns with your passion and purpose. It’s where you’ll find the most significant opportunities for growth and fulfillment.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Feeling overwhelmed is a common experience, and I certainly have my moments. It’s important to recognize that we live in a culture that often glorifies productivity and busyness, so even with a commitment to balance and rest, it can be challenging not to fall into the trap of “doing the most.”

The strategies I employ when I feel overwhelmed align with the principles we teach at The Namaste Project. It starts with taking the time to understand my body and mind, particularly how I respond to different situations. This self-awareness has allowed me to recognize the early signs of a stress response to overwhelm.

When I notice these signs, I apply mindfulness and therapeutic tools to slow down and prioritize self-care. It might involve a short mindfulness practice, a few moments of deep breathing, or simply stepping away from the situation briefly to regain perspective. These practices help me recharge and return to my personal, family, or work projects with a refreshed mindset, ready to move forward effectively.
