Hi Darkhorse , so excited to have you with us today, particularly to get your insight on a topic that comes up constantly in the community – overcoming creativity blocks. Any thoughts you can share with us?
Taking time away from your art and living life is definitely key. Having a good work-life balance is paramount to success in any field. I’ve been fortunate enough to learn patience and persistence from all of the curve balls I’ve been thrown. When I have a beat block or I can’t get a song to sound how I want to, I switch gears. Being an interdisciplinary artist I create art in many different mediums. If the music doesn’t flow naturally at that moment I will pivot and work on clothes or a painting and come back around to the music. Also I find inspiration in every day life that helps me paint vivid pictures with my art.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Currently I’m in the fifth year of independently releasing music and art under my label 11:11 Studios LA. I have also just released the sixth season of my clothing line Internet Ghetto where we have entered into the world of cut and sew and custom fabrics and patterns. And I recently signed two new artists that have released phenomenal albums.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Being on time and staying patient are the two game changers for me. When people know you care about your time they value you a lot more. And patience has been the most rewarding quality I’ve developed. For the people like me who have to stay active and have to stay creating, it’s important to learn the difference between activity and productivity when creating. Working on my patience helped me discern between the two.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
The Secret is my favorite book of all time. Reading that always wakes me up. Essentially the book is about the law of attraction but it dives so much further into the psychology of being a magnet for success.
