Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Darrian Mckinney. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Darrian, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
Prioritizing self-care is essential to my well-being. This includes dedicating time to maintain personal care services, as well as carving out moments for quiet reflection, meditation, and other nurturing practices.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My most honorable title is being a mom, and beyond that, I am an actress, model, and author. Recently, I’ve announced my book, “I Affirm That I Am: Affirmations Through God’s Promises,” and I’m also in the exciting process of finishing a children’s book, co-authored with my daughter. I’m excited to share that I’ll be available to book for speaking engagements. Additionally, the impact of my new Mirror Ministry, showcased at my book signing, has inspired me to continue helping others embark on the journey of self-empowerment and healing. I am ultimately looking forward to the exciting chapters ahead and making a positive impact on the world.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The key foundation of my life is God. I grew up in the church, but outside of that, I made it a priority to form a personal relationship with God, and that has definitely carried me through on my journey. Secondly, I am a big advocate for mental health and believe everyone should have a therapist; that has played a part in helping me navigate through my journey as well. Lastly, determination is one quality I have that keeps me going on my journey as I execute my personal and business goals.
What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?
I believe it is important to find the right balance between operating in our strengths and making efforts to strengthen our abilities in areas where we may be weak. I recall for a long time that I felt I could only focus on acting because that was my passion, but the reality is that acting is not the only thing I could do and focus on. I started investing in knowledge in other industries that I had an interest in, and now I am a published author, impacting lives with my book.
I believe we should always find ways to learn new things and grow. The very thing you may avoid due to it not being your strength could be the thing that propels you forward if you develop it more.
