Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to David Coleman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
David, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I grew up with hard working parents who were wonderful role models. We also were a part of a family owned business in the vacation and resort industry in which everyone pitched in and did what was necessary to run a successful enterprise. We created a family atmosphere with our guests, to the point where they would eagerly choose their return dates for the next year or season before they even left their current stay with us. Our daily efforts had nothing to do with how much we were making, and everything to do with the level of satisfaction our guests felt, and how important they knew they were to us.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I have been incredibly blessed, both personally and professionally, over the course of my life and career. Growing up in a family owned service business, part of my every day included serving our guests in many diverse ways, while the other part focused on keeping our guests entertained, laughing and smiling. As I grew, matured and became educated, I sought out a career where I could serve people in exceptional ways while simultaneously entertaining them. Crafting a career as “America’s Dating Doctor” (a professional speaker, entertainer and coach) has allowed me to do just that. Whether I am speaking live to a group of dozens, hundreds or thousands, directly coaching a client, or officiating a wedding, I attempt to instill a growth mentality, teach and improve important and essential skillsets necessary to succeed, and leave my audiences and clients on a very specific call to action. Over a career spanning 25+ years, I have appeared over 5,000 times, speaking to more than two million people and continue to do so every day. They say, if you love what you do and how you do it, you will never work a day in your life. In my case, that is absolutely true. My most recent endeavor is hosting an exciting new radio show with NFL All Pro, David Fulcher, called…”Overtime! Life After The Spotlight” whereby we interview amazing individuals who have lived and worked in the public eye and the impact they continue to make on the world since their “playing days” have come to an end. The Show is on Bootlegger’s Music Group Radio.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
There are more than three, but I will keep them brief. Resilience, versatility, adaptability, humility, selflessness, exceptional communicating skills and an unparalleled work ethic. As a family, we lived, loved and worked together with One Heartbeat. Every decision we made had a purposed behind it, no one was more or less important and no one cared who go the credit as long as the mission was completed by delivering exceptional customer service that came with a smile and an appreciation of them choosing to spend their time and money with and on us. They could have chosen to make special family memories anywhere in the world and they chose to be with us. There is no greater compliment that can be given, and we reciprocated by treating them every day, in every way, as family.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
They taught me that every single time you get knocked down, you get back up and keep fighting. Life isn’t a cake walk, nor should it be, and that makes being successful that much sweeter. Winning the lottery would be an incredible feeling, but it pales in comparison to feeling experienced by working hard, executing with excellence and being rewarded financially, intellectually and emotionally with the knowledge that you turned your dreams into goals and made them come true.
