We were lucky to catch up with David Lewis III recently and have shared our conversation below.
David , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience originated from the divine and the unwavering support of my parents. As the sole child, my parents incessantly instilled the teachings of God and equipped me with invaluable life lessons. However, a recent tragic blow struck my life when I tragically lost my cherished mother. She exemplified true resilience, battling against illness since her teenage years and persevering until the very end, seldom expressing any complaints. Most importantly watching my father stand and move with such grace and strength as his “girl” as he affectionately called her, transitioned. Such unparalleled resilience is undoubtedly awe-inspiring.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three areas of my life that have made a significant impact are my relationship with God, the values of integrity passed down from my parents, and my ability to truly understand and empathize and sympathize with others. These aspects have played a crucial role in shaping who I am today. To those who are in the early stages of their own journey, I have some valuable advice. Firstly, listen to the wisdom and experiences shared by your elders, as they hold valuable insights about life. Secondly, if you are passionate about something, seek guidance from those who have succeeded in that field. Learning from their achievements will help you grow and flourish. Lastly, nurture your empathy and sympathy. You can achieve this by reading, praying, and, most importantly, actively listening when others communicate with you. These traits have been instrumental in propelling me forward in life.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
One of the most impactful things my parents did for me was to instill a strong belief in God and love me with all their hearts. My dad is not only my father, but also a dear friend and mentor who embodies incredible integrity, a great work ethic, and love. He effortlessly passed these qualities down to me. My adored mom, may she rest in heavenly peace, taught me how to gracefully accept and be grateful even in the face of physical pain. She showed me how to keep a warm and beautiful smile regardless of life’s challenges and not to take things too seriously. Above all, she taught me to value each day and keep my faith alive. Even though I will deeply miss her, she will forever remain close in my heart and spirit.
