We were lucky to catch up with Davide Micciulla recently and have shared our conversation below.
Davide, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
I keep my creativity alive by constantly seeking inspiration from diverse experiences. Traveling is one of my go-to methods, as it exposes me to various cultures and locations. Exploring different environments allows me to absorb new perspectives, traditions, and lifestyles, which in turn fuel my imagination. By embracing the richness of the world around me, I ensure that my mind remains open, adaptable, and ready to channel fresh ideas into my creative endeavors.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Davide Micciulla is a Video Director from Siracusa, Sicily. He had a unique start to his filmmaking career, though. As a child, he dreamt of a life of discovery – archaeology. This childhood aspiration led to a deep fascination with photography. His passion enveloped him, so much so that his father called it, “A second skin”.
At 18, he decided to leave his beloved hometown for Milan where he began studying Art Direction at Naba.
It was in this program that he discovered a new medium – one that encapsulated all of his desires.
He honed his craft and began his collaborative career with fashion designers and agencies before eventually becoming an official video contributor for Elle Italia.
Still, Davide commits his time and energy to learn more, maintaining his focus and enthusiasm throughout his professional journey with an unmatched thirst for knowledge and experience.
Within a few years, he has been able to truly immerse himself into the fashion industry, signing contracts with international companies such as H&M, Shiseido, and Samsung. His videos have been aired on national TV channels such as Mediaset and Rai. More recently, he worked for Alexandre Birman, Booking.com and with such importants stars of Hollywood as Demi Moore and the celebrity of Gossip Girl, Ed Westwick.
He was nominated as one of the 100 New Wave: Creatives in the world from the British Fashion Council.
During Covid he also launched is new Limited edition Frame in exclusive on Moda Operandi.
Even so, he has only just begun accomplishing his goals and will continue to explore the world of art and creativity – the only world he wants to be a part of.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities that proved to be highly impactful were confidence, a collaborative mindset, and perseverance.
Firstly, maintaining unwavering confidence was crucial, especially in an industry where challenges are abundant. Believing in my abilities and ideas, even in the face of setbacks, helped me stay resilient and navigate through uncertainties.
Secondly, fostering a collaborative mindset was key. Instead of viewing others as competitors, I saw them as potential collaborators and sources of inspiration. Learning from the experiences and expertise of those around me became a powerful tool for growth. Embracing a culture of shared learning and mutual support contributed significantly to my journey.
Lastly, perseverance played a pivotal role. The road to success is rarely smooth, and setbacks are inevitable. However, persistently pushing through obstacles and learning from failures ultimately propelled me forward.
For those at the early stages of their journey, my advice would be to cultivate unwavering confidence in your abilities. Understand that challenges are part of the process, and your self-assurance will be a guiding light during tough times. Additionally, foster a collaborative mindset; seek inspiration from others in the field, and view them as potential allies rather than rivals. Finally, embrace perseverance. Success often requires weathering storms, so stay committed to your goals, learn from every experience, and keep moving forward.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was supporting my decision to study in another city. They covered my living expenses, especially at the beginning that I was not working. Equally important was their hands-off approach, never obstructing my decisions, which allowed me the freedom to shape my own path.
